Liver chestnut, but I am guessing he was born as black. My standard shettie is the same and I have seen a lot of the classic "black" shetlands with the same sun bleaching (apparently a lot of show people rug the poor beasties 24/7 all year round to keep them black).
BTW I lost my passports and had to get general ones - the (black/liver chestnut) pony I just mentioned now has a passport stating bay, as does her clearly piebald best mate!!!
I disagree. Your horse, SP, looks bay, the OP's pony has a dorsal stripe, is smokey black and therefore based on the photos given, her pony certainly looks grulla to me.
If OP gives us the colour of the dam and sire then people would be able to give her a more accurate answer.

without seeing the updated description, I would have said liver chestnut without a doubt, but if there is a true dorsal stripe under there then the correct answer could be chocolate dun. What is the breeding?
BTW I'm not sure that grullo = dun, isn't that just buckskin without the stripe?

Brown with bleached mane and tail, my gelding has the same effect
Yes, but your gelding is bay....

She knows. She was saying that the mini horse was brown with bleached mane and tail, and that her horse has a bleached mane- Not that her horse was brown as well.
I can't see any stripes but the pics aren't too clear either so i'm sure that would make a difference
my old horse Glory (now RIP) looks quite similar and we just called her brown lol. She looks like a scruff in these pics but they were the best to show you the mane hehe

Now I would have called Glory a liver chestnut, just to totally confuse things. Ditto the OP pony, although does look more dun in the first pic.
