I can't get a picture up unless I can do it from my phone....can I do this?

Anyway I have aquired a little, possibly miniature horse x Shetland standing at 9:3hh. He has blue eyes with with lovely black eye liner. He's mainly grey (white) but his has an incredibly pale grey ear and a barely visible pale grey patch. Is this piebald?

You should be able to upload the photo to facebook/photo bucket from your phone. Then all you need to do is post the link.

He wouldn't be piebald- that's black and white. He'd be skewbald but they are quite old fashioned terms.

Now you'd say grey tobiano.

Need a picture to say really.

Are the grey parts like a mouse dun colour? Could be grulla (dun)

Otherwise it sounds as if he was originally piebald perhaps and could be greying out. Just call him coloured ;) Or grey and white, or maybe blue and white - although that is usually applicable to roan coloured patches.

This is what is generally called a blue and white:

This is a grulla and white:

Hurrah! Technology can work for me!
Please excuse the yard - we were literally 6" under water 5 days before this was taken. Not a great pic of him but you can see his markings.

His naughty grey ear.

Looks blue and white skewbald to me, but I'm no expert I just wanted to say - loving the make shift tarpaulin field shelter in the background! hehe I assume that's what it is in the corner, also wanted to say he's gorgeous too!

Sorry no advise - but BLOODY CUTE last photo!!!!

That could be a on a card!!

Looking at Enfys pictures - I would say he is Blue and White. I didn't know if the blue eyes altered anything? (I can just about manage colours bay, palamino and black so please be patient!).

Sorry you all posted while I was typing the last one!
Haven't got a clue what that tarp is for - thats the spare emergency paddock (fortunately not used often). Think it was a quick cover for some hay that was delivered. Blue has a far superior shelter :D his is like a polytunnel and is about 10ft x 20ft. Specially designed for horses.

So we're definitely blue and white then - tobiano?

Thanks for the compliments x

I know lots of people use the term blue and white for coloureds that are greying out but it's a pet hate of mine. :p To me, a true blue and white is a blue roan and white, as Enfys posted.

I'd just class him as a coloured that's greying out. If you're wanting to know for the purposes of registering him places etc, I'd just stick him down as 'grey' as it seems he's practically whited out already and it saves you a job in the foreseeable future, re changing details. :D

No way to tell the base coat IMO, without colour testing.

Sorry, bit of a pedantic geek when it comes to colours. I clearly have no life and it's a personality flaw of mine. ;)

SatsumaGirl - Keep the info coming! He's 8 so I suppose getting to the age where he will be getting quite white.
He has a International Miniature Horse and Pony Society Passport which was issued when he was 1. And nothing else has been added. Its not clear whether he's a Miniature Horse (which I don't think he is) or whether he's got a bit of Shetland in there too. He's also still registered as entire on his passport so I have got quite a bit of updating to do. Vaccinations first though before the passport gets sent off. Not sure if I'm brave enough to register him as grey though!
