My lodger mare has been here for a couple of months now and has been fine up until the last week and a half, she seems to be stressy when stabled overnight. She seems to be pacing the stable as the beeding ends up spread everywhere. I've just done a night check and i had to sweep all the bedding back as all except the banks was at the door.
Nothing has changed, I don't know whats upsetting her

Her owner has noticed it too as shes very messy atm when mucked out.
Any ideas?

Sherlock Holmes hat on and run through every tiny change in her daily life that hasn't meant anything to you but has really upset her. Eg: on her own now, special friend left yard, new mobile phone mast been put up, different hay suppliers, change to feed, sheep moved into next door field, badgers come near her stable overnight and worry her, etc etc etc. Could be anything. Think it through from a horse's viewpoint, not a human's.

The two ponies are out 24/7 but always have been whilst shes been here so nothing different there, feed the same, she seems to be sniffing the air alot, maybe she can smell something different in the air that we wouldn't notice.

Clearly she is anxious about something, but what?? May sound daft, but do you think there could be something simple like a fox in the field upsetting her? Something making her feel insecure and scared??

Up north so cold really isn't a new thing :P
I really don't know what it could be........I'll speak to her owner tommorrow and see what she thinks. Although we did talk about it the other day and can't think what it is.

Birds nesting in her stable? Sounds random, my mare suddenly got stressed when stabled, figured it out when an owl swooped out the door & gave me the fright of my life
