What could I do better?

Yep I think it would improve your chances 100%. But I'm not into M&M showing. I would go the Horsegossip and ask their advice ;):cool:

oooh trolling... *tempted* :p

Just look at the county M&M's - they have enough fat of their own - Twice what's on that suit - poor ferg's will still look anorexic!!

He could wear two? one on top of the other? :D

I would LOVE to see a horse in a fat suit. Perhaps I should get Ned one and go as "Best Condition" as my fancy dress! Maybe it would cause less of a fuss than my Native American dress? Or perhaps I'd be called "fatist" instead :P

How come not a double or a pelham inhand? I'll admit that as far as inhand goes i'v not done it lol, i'v only ever done it as the confo part at county level and i guess the double is allready there haha :)

Adult horses are generally shown in doubles. Certain breeds have different requirements, but a bog standard horse will be fine in a snaffle or double - definitely not an in hand bridle. It's always worked for when I have done in hand classes!

And I would like to see more top line to give your horse a more continuous line. This will be a combination of correct feeding and correct work.

I just found another nose band :D no flash thingy!
That's one thing checked off my list..

Nah, I'm *pretty* sure I've got an in hand showing book somewhere - only a basic one but I'll look it out when I have a chance and can chuck it in the post to you if it would be any use?

For all the 'non-specific' classes like you are doing, you turn the horse out 'to type'; I would have thought Ned would have been classed as a riding horse more than anything else so would be tempted to have a velvet browband on his (plain) bridle :)

Is your bridle black or brown, can't tell from the pics?

That would be amazing! I'll PM you in the morning (I keep saying I'm going to bed! This was 30mins ago!)

With my rather minimal knowledge, I'd also class him as a riding horse :) aside from this local show once a year, I'm a happy hacker! I may try and make a velvet browband. I have a few spares and I can't find a black/red one anywhere! They're all black/navy.

It's black :)

Nah - as an example, the most expensive thing in this pic (aside from horse) was my hat. Trousers, shoes from Tesco, leather gloves from Primark, Shires jacket, show shirt (which is actually pale lemon, although looks more white), bridle, bit and malacca cane from ebay, and tie and pin from local saddlery. Nugz is in a snaffle as was just 4 when I did this particular show.

And as an idea of just how confusing showing can be, all the handlers (barr a couple) in the backround show at county level - look at the variation ;)

And to make you feel better about using elastic bands and plaiting tails (and using bands to fix tail plait :D) - this is my old mare and we got placed 3rd out of a large class at county level with a HOYS judge (but there are still things to be done better...like bigger plaits, but I wasn't orignally planning on going and pulled/thinned mane ready for winter) :D

I also use safety pins to secure my number - saves the creation of yet another spare tyre (not an issue in your case, but still makes getting in and out of your jacket easier!), and cut off the corners so it sits/looks neater.

Use overtrousers - either baggy jogging or waterproof bottoms and a hoody to keep you clean, or a lightweight long sleeve top for hot weather.

Become good friends with baby wipes - they clean EVERYTHING! Tack, you, ponio, mum etc. :D

You've done the right thing by asking - good luck for the future and I am sure you will progress out of the 'novelty' classes in no time (best turned out is good if you only want to walk for the moment - for both in-hand and walking)

It's in storage at my dads place as I don't have room for all my (hundreds of) books here, but am up this weekend so if I find it I'll let you know and you can pm me then. Am also needing to clear out lots of ginger horse's stuff that I won't use again so if I find any bits and pieces that could suit I'll let you know, his tack is all black too :)

Thank you :D you're so kind!! If you can't find anything, I really appreciate the thought :)

Thanks everyone else too! I might sell some of my stuff, as I doubt I'll do jumping classes again. I'm not fussed about them and I can see Ned hurting himself or me if we carry on! I love jumping, but we'll stick to the school :P he actually does very well in there.
That should raise some funds for showing stuff :D

I feel much safer with all of our combined 6 feet on the floor :P

So far I have - noseband and hairnet! (just ordered one from ebay!)

Just wanted to say that I really like your horse/pony . Lovely condition , not too fat. my ideal. PS love that tail:D

Ooo - forgot to say, hair nets are cheaper in Boots/Primark/Supermarkets as are about £1.50 for 3, as opposed to £1.50 for one and you will always lose them :D And use a discreet dark brown scrunchie around your bun (again - £1 for 3 from Primarni :D)

Will have a lookie in boots tomorrow :) I think they do have some. The more the merrier!
Will also have a look in the charity shops. There's about 6 on the highstreet where I work.

I have seen tweed hacking jackets in charity shops occasionally

But the best place is your local horse sale, if it has a second hand tack auction as well. There are sometimes some real bargains.

Going to post a video (when it's loaded, so maybe tomorrow) of why I much prefer in-hand Ned, to show jumping Ned!

Wow, loaded faster than I thought!

Please no crit on the jumping! It was a trainwreck! Partly due to my bad riding and partly down to Ned being an unbelievable chump!

Hoorah! I just found another set of reins! ...Though I must ask myself...where they heck is this stuff coming from? I don't remember buying it!

A total change of subject but you mentioned the bit rings earlier. An easy way to get these on and off:

Loop baler twine through ring and over something overhead like a beam until bit ring is level with you. Loop another baler twine through the ring and tie ina knot so the loop is at shin height put foot in loop and push down the bit ring should elongate making it east to pass the bit rings through

Correct me if I'm wrong, and if this has already been mentioned I'm sorry, but as you say your top button is done up, you must not have a button on your collar, that's what people are getting at I think. As in the shirt should be totally closed round your neck, which it doesn't seem to be! :)

Tell me to go away if I'm wrong, haha ;)

Short of time to add much advice of my own, but just to say that Walrus and FMM have given particularly good advice and suggest you concentrate on their points specifically.

Nah what size shirt are you? I have a creamy/lemon one, perfect for showing, just a little too small for me now! I can send it off to you if you like! It's sat here doing nothing!!
