any idea's greatly appreciated.

I went to grab my boy in from the field and routed to the spot he gave me a very warm welcome but it was not followed by usual trot to the gate - thinking he was just eing stubborn i wandered over and popped his headcollor on, however he was routed to the spot and although he looked like he wanted to move he couldn't - after busting onto tears and thinking the worst - his leg was at an awkward angle i called the YO and he moved forward albeit reluctualy and very unstable on off hind - he is 8 and looked like an old man - called the Vet and after examination on tendons, stifle, hocks, hoof and everything esle you can think of with no obvious pain source, no swelling no heat nothing she suggested box rest and bute and is coming ack Fri unless anything rears it's ugly head between now and then. I stayed with him after as he just looked uncomfortale and although he has passed urine he had not poo'ed and that is very unsual for my elephant dropping maker - so after 3 hours and what looked like an uneasy and uncomfortale 5 mins he managed to pass droppings - he was displaying no other colic signs and had very healthly noise coming from his gut.

Any ideas on what he may have done?? Can horses get 'dead' legs or does this sound more pelvis related. There were skid marks where he must have been hoofing round field, perhaps he could have gone over and jarred himself.

Sorry for long ramling post, and I have had the vet but now just worrying myself stupid................ I'm clueless, any one have any other ideas? Thanks in advance guys

Locking stifle??

Could have tweaked something when he was running around. Don't worry too much yet, wait and see how he is in the morning.

Hope he is ok and no serious damage done

could it be possible that he has, in a way done the splits when he has been running about and slipped? this causes trauma which might not be evident straight away, watch for a swollen sheath, this is caused by fluid from the trauma itself.

another suggestion is that he could have "tyed up" cheeck his wee and see if it is a dark brown shade, this comes from the myoglobin released from the musles in responce to tying up.

obviously thats only two suggestions from millions of things it could be, good luck with it anyway.
hope he gets well soon, and try not to worry to much, as the vet told me once...horses are sent to test you lol

that's a thought, and he is certianly the athletic type.........

Re tying up, I did think this as he looked a little tight through the body - wee looked ok, although he did have to short spurts which is unusual for him and he was kind of uncomfortable, more so when passing droppings thou

and the testing bit am reminded every day - but would any of us change it, doubt it!!

Got everything crossed for a speedy recovery

i think it hopefully was just that - relieved to see a happy chappy this morning. He can take it easy for the next few days and i'd like to think he'll take it easy in the field from now on but somehow I doubt it!! Thanks for the calming words of wisdom!!
