What could it be - near side lameness no heat/swelling

Vet was out to see one of mine tonight - been on/off lame for about 5 weeks now... thought it was his back.... then his pelvis.....then his saddle....then his teeth... so called vet out and tonight after flexion tests hes is very lame on his near side fore.

No heat, no swelling, no thickening of the leg, blacksmith had done him yesterday and he found nothing at all. So here stressing myself stupid unitl i can get him booked in for nerve blocks, x rays etc... but anyone have any ideas?

Vet said he had not got a clue until he did some digging, and I have a lot of respect for this vet as he knows his stuff and has not so far pressed for much expensive treatment, he is also the same vet whom came to vet the little chap, so he has a good basis to start from.
 
Thanks Q - i was wondering navicular - but for some bizzare reason i have it fixed in my brain that it would be showing in both feet. There has not been any sign of heat in this leg at all and he has been intermitantly lame - not all the time for 5 weeks - which is why i have been ruling out one thing at a time. Arthritus - could be - but again i would have expected him to be lame for a couple of days at a time - not sound in morning and then on the nod at night - or sound on the right rein but not on the left..... agghhhh horses - wish they could speak !
 
well with mine she only ever looked slightly lame in her off fore. X rays showed it in both but even now as she has been lame this last week - she still only shows lameness in that off fore - mine was first diagnosed last may - she just wasnt quite right- vet advised rest she had two weeks off still same, he then decided full lameness work up at surgery - nerve blocks showed caudal area so he x rayed navicular area and she had classic signs.

however i knew before i took her thats what it was as the day before i went i had a lady with a thermal camera come - and it showed red areas where navicualr bone is - took pics to vets with me and although he still had to do nerve block he also had a better idea where to look.

So sorry to hear about your boy.
My boy had intermitent lameness on one side and being a tight little TB i got my back man in who was convinced it was pelvis related so i went down that road but it still kept happening so eventually took him up to the vets and had x-rays done and it turned out to be Navicular and it was in both even though he was only lame on one side.
Turned out he was thowing his back out because of how he was working to ease he discomfort of the navic :(
Sorry for this glum post but i wish i had caught it earlier and x-rays are so easy to do.

has your vet at a possible shoulder injury ,i say that because my friend horse was lame no heat, no swelling etc just lame she had the farrier check for abcess etc but couldnt find anything and also vet had a look , after 5 wks he was still lame but on and off so it was recommend to box rest horse and bute it took about 8 wks for him to get better .
it was put down to a shoulder injury caused by a fall or possible kick injury .
