any idea'sgreatly appreciated.

I went to grab my boy in from the field and routed to the spot he gave me a very warm welcome but it was not followed by usual trot to the gate - thinking he was just eing stubborn i wandered over and popped his headcollor on, however he was routed to the spot and although he looked like he wanted to move he couldn't - after busting onto tears and thinking the worst - his leg was at an awkward angle i called the YO and he moved forward albeit reluctualy and very unstable on off hind - he is 8 and looked like an old man - called the Vet and after examination on tendons, stifle, hocks, hoof and everything esle you can think of with no obvious pain source, no swelling no heat nothing she suggested box rest and bute and is coming ack Fri unless anything rears it's ugly head between now and then. I stayed with him after as he just looked uncomfortale and although he has passed urine he had not poo'ed and that is very unsual for my elephant dropping maker - so after 3 hours and what looked like an uneasy and uncomfortale 5 mins he managed to pass droppings - he was displaying no other colic signs and had very healthly noise coming from his gut.

Any ideas on what he may have done?? Can horses get 'dead' legs or does this sound more pelvis related. There were skid marks where he must have been hoofing round field, perhaps he could have gone over and jarred himself.

Sorry for long ramling post, and I have had the vet but now just worrying myself stupid................ I'm clueless, any one have any other ideas? Thanks in advance guys

Hmm sounds a bit odd doesn't it? First of all I was going to suggest laminitis but with skid marks etc perhaps it is more likely to be a twist or tweak injury? Fingers crossed for you he gets better soon!

thanks, i'm going for twist or tweek but he is not a sick or sorry type and hearing him whinny and create like that really made me think he was hurting, but perhaps I am humanising him a bit - lets see what the morning brings!

p.s he is a beautiful dapple like the stunner in your sig!!

Be careful also about giving bute to a very lame horse where the diagnosis is still uncertain. He could have a hairline fracture and if the pain is numbed he might do something that would make it far more serious, ie lie down and then stand up again.

thanks for the feedback guys - he seemed a lot better today but taking things very easy and day by day - vet comes back Fri. Tying up was a thought and we had been out the day before and he does tend to get a little over excited - wee was a normal colour thou so all still seems a bit of a mystry......He is curently enyyoing a life of luxury out of the rain and being waited on hand and foot
