What could my budget get me?

Hello folks.
I've unfortunately come to the conclusion that my youngster is just growing too big for me to ride properly and hold together due to my slightly dodgy leg. I have a good idea of what I will be looking for, but have no idea if I have the budget for it currently. My max budget currently is £20k, but obviously the less money I have to spend the better lol.

This is the draft of the wanted advert I've written, just wondering if I could realistically get something like this for the amount of money I have? Or am I asking too much?

15.3hh - 16.3hh, no smaller or bigger please

6 - 12 years, slightly older may also be considered

Gelding or Mare, any colour but would prefer no greys

Schoolmaster type, BS or BE record to at least 1.05 - 1.10, any higher is a bonus

Good conformation and hooves

Forward, Brave and Willing, good to handle on ground, don't mind freshness or hot behaviour but nothing nasty or dangerous

Mainly to Showjump, but would also Event, Hunter Trial, Team Chase and just generally have fun on

For a vet science student & amateur rider who's been producing youngsters and now wants to move up onto something more experienced and go up the levels BS, ideally to 1.20 (potentially higher if possible with the right horse)

Would consider an ex-racer as long as no vices, no prior injuries and proven at this level

Must pass a 5 Stage vetting and have decent X-rays, including neck and back, though obviously minor discrepancies in older horses will be considered as long as they are disclosed and horse is sound and capable

Bold jumper with good scope and generally good paces, as would be doing the odd dressage test here and there

Also if anyone knows of anything like this that may be available in the near future, or has recommendations on where to source a type like this I'd very much appreciate it, thank you in advance. :)

Well the good thing for you is that it’s the right time of year and the bottom has dropped out of the market.

That said, the competitive ones that vet well are still very sought after.

I think you can get something in your budget but I’m not convinced they will be abundant, and you will probably need to do quite a lot of legwork and/or accept a question mark on the vetting.

Good luck!

Yes I should think so, although I’d establish first whether you’re looking for a 1.05/1.10 schoolmaster or a 1.20+ horse. £20k would get you the former, with the latter I think you’d have to compromise somewhere.
For your 1.20+ I think you’d either have to get something relatively green, been to a few shows but not schoolmaster - or something that’s competed high level and is dropping back down, and I’d expect some maintenance needed.
A 1.10 schoolmaster with scope for 1.20+ is a bit niche, 1.10 is fairly small for the showjumpers so if they’ve scope for more then they don’t tend establish them as schoolmasters at that height. But you might find one with an amateur rider who was just comfortable at newcomers.
The bsja Facebook page has a lot of sales ads so worth a look.

Would it be worth saying roughly where you are & how far you're prepared to travel?
I'm based in Gloucester Monday - Thursday then Surrey-Sussex borders Friday - Sunday, willing to travel around 4 hours from either location, would potentially go farther if it was to a big yard with multiple horses to view

Not so much an established schoolmaster type at 1.10, I'd just like the reassurance that it can actually compete at that height. My old gelding would happily school around 1.20 at home but wouldn't do anything bigger than a 1.00 at competitions. I had professional riders try to get him round and fail, so more just trying to avoid a similar situation to that, If that makes sense?
