Hi,

Wonder if any of you could help. I'm currently thinking about a career in the equine industry. I currently work full time & cannot afford to not work (i've not found a way for the bills to pay themselves :( ) so going to college full time isn't an option.
I'm looking at doing something more specific than just general stable management. I'm toying between the idea's of either Equine Holistic or Equine Nutrition. I'm just wondering if any can recommend anyone to study either of these with.
I've been looking at some learn from home courses & i know i'll have to do a couple of days on 'study days' which is fine. It's just deciding what course is best to get the best qualification from.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated as i'm at a cross roads & want to make sure i look down all the routes before jumping in at the deep end!

Thanks in advance :)

I believe equine nutrition is HIGHLY competitive. Obviously of its something you really want to do then that shouldn't stop you, but it would be worth looking at the likelihood of being able to use that qualification before you start.

What about barefoot trimming? If that's something you may be interested in there are some good courses out there done over weekends/week-long courses and home study which may be doable around your job if you use up your holidays.

Whatever you choose, make it something you love - as the saying goes: if you love your job, you'll never work again in your life! I'm a nurse but every day I dream and wish I worked on a yard......

Battytwoll, thats completely true, i think thats what has made me think to be honest, i don't want to be in an office forever!

Barefoot trimming doesn't really appeal to me if i'm honest, although it would be a good route to go down.
I'm interested in nutrition but i don't think i want to make a career out of it. If i'm honest, holistic therapy is really standing out to me, i guess it's just choosing how to study it & what course to do!

Thanks everyone :)

....and do it before you earn too much in a "proper" (!) job; once you are in receipt of even a mediocre pay packet (see nhs scales of pay) it becomes very hard to take a drop to train and horses or any agricultural type work is notoriously low salaried :(

You're right! ... Thats the stage i'm at now, i earn enough to keep my house running, have the horses & live comfortably! ... I can't drop my hours cause i can't afford to loose any pay, that's why i'm kind of looking at the learn from home option & then do an 'end exam' kind of thing!
Oh things are never easy! :(
