I just had my own timber stables installed including a 5x12 foot insulated tack room at the end of the hay bar. It has a window with a vent on it. What dehumidifier would you run in it to avoid mould?

I have a Daewoo one which is good, though wasn’t the cheapest to buy. Mine doesn’t work in conditions under 5 degrees though, so keep in mind it might not work all year? I’m not sure if this applies to all?

I have a workshop for my saddlery, leather, machinery , hand tools , motorbike, freezer etc and I got fed up with the damp.
I tried turning the only radiator up (from the boiler in the house next to it) no, that didn't have enough oomph, tried an oil filled rad, TOO damn expensive to run, installed a log burner and put a flue out through the wall, it is good but you need to constantly feed it with wood etc and that's going up in price.
I bought a ceramic gas heater but it still costs a fair amount to run.
I even had candle heaters all over the floor!
BUT, not wanting to be beaten and buy a dehumidifier and run that due to the cost as I'm a skin flint saddler I bought a split diesel heater, WOW is all I can say.
I run it on kerosene instead of diesel as I have a tank full outside left over from the oil fired rayburn days.
I can put a 5 litre tin in and that runs 24 hours no problem but the workshop is so hot I dont need it on all the time and the best bit is, I bought the oil before the USA and Iran punch up so I got it cheaper.
I can run it the whole week on one tin full.
The kerosene produces a very dry heat which is GREAT for storing leather etc.
I mix 5 litres of kerosene with 2 stroke engine oil (25ml) but you can use most oils. It runs dry compared to diesel so needs a bit of lube as the oil pump will wear out quicker with out it.
Diesel is more oily and doesn't have that problem but the diesel does soot the heater up where as the kerosene won't.

I chose the split heater as it was cheaper and it a modular heater, you put it up as different components.
Anyone who has a camper or lorry probably has one. You can buy what's called a toolbox diesel heater which as the name suggests looks just like a toolbox. its an all in one rather than a modular heater like I have.
I needed to exit the exhaust through a wooden door and of course it needs insulating so I bought a marine through hull fitting (stainless steel) off of temu for about 6 quid .
I use a lithium phosphate battery with it as it needs to cool down when you switch it off and keeps running until its done. If you get a powercut and it can't cool down it can damage the heater, hence the battery which we run off solar.
All in all I paid around 120 quid for the battery, heater and hull fitting. The brackets to put it up I made myself. It's SO cheap to run even with kerosene at the higher prices at the moment it is cheaper than electricity and gives out a great dry heat. You can program it to come on when the temp drops to a certain level.
Give it a thought instead of a de humidifier.
I have a video of mine working but the file is too large to put it on here.
AND I have a clothes line up and it dries the washing beautifully!
Plenty of vids on you tube to look at.
Hope it helps, Oz
