Hello! The lining of my turnout rug neck has got covered in mud after it was accidentally left turned down when someone put my horse out the other day and of course she used the opportunity to have a good roll!!! So I thought I'd make the most of my OH bring away and wash it in the washing machine but am unsure what detergent to use & cycle to put it on as I don't want to affect the waterproofing. Have people found normal washing powder/liquid has been ok??
Any thoughts/advice appreciated! :-)

No it will strip out the waterproofing .
I use nik wax rug wash on out door rugs you could also use woolite or any other wool /handwash product .
I reproof after washing.

That's great thanks all! I thought normal detergent was prob not a good idea!
Have had a look at the nikwax on eBay & sounds great! How much of it do you need for a wash? They seem to sell them in 300ml bottles it 1ltr, sounds like something I may use a bit for lightweight rugs etc so am guessing its prob worth getting a litre one as I would imagine the 300ml only lasting a couple of washes??

You absolutly must not use detergent - you'll ruin your rug. The best option is green nix wax which cleans the rug / waterproof garment, then wash using the blue nix wax to reproof it. you'll get it from quite a lot of tack stores or almost any outdoor shop
