What Did Everyone Do At The Yard Today?

Tidied house as neighbours came round, rode highlands, popped in on local new petting farm for leaflet, lunch, groomed dog, fed rabbit, laid beds, water, hay and fed two then fed three more. Turned my lights on, went to parents had cup of tea, back to mine with cottage pie mix, threw lights on Christmas tree, threw decorations on tree. Cooked potatoes, iced Christmas cakes, supper, watched telly... Bed....

Filled up four bags of hay, mucked out a box, led a horse to their paddock and then brought her back in once it started to bucket a few hours later. Even better though I was able to get some use out of my broken wrist which appears to be well on the mend. I'll give it a few more weeks and see if I'm up for riding lessons.

Spent the 2nd day helping the builder put my barn up, been waiting nearly 4 months for it so chuffed to bits its finally getting built :) now feeling very very sore and realised i have muscles i didnt know i had ! Hopefully its will get finished first week of jan and i will be able to move my hay in - cant wait !!!

Oiled the boy's legs while he danced around like I was trying to chop off his legs :rolleyes3: Mucked out, fed him and his best mate, tried the treat all with his mate to see if I should get him one for Christmas, no way! Made lots of haynets, put the nuts I bought into the metal bin, made feeds, had a cup of tea, looked after a crying kid helper from the riding school. Nothing much! Might longline tomorrow just for interest. If it's horrible weather, I might keep him in again.

Not yard related:
Did two dog walks and was super proud of Zak who didn't attack the three dogs we encountered in the park! Amazing!

Did Christmas food shopping very late at Asda, bought loads of presents and food, chocolates, crackers, need to buy poussin for the dogs for Christmas and a present for next door's GSD.

Crawled out of bed, power cut. Forced dogs out for wee, literally dragged on lead as Teal would not go beyond porch.

Battled a flood or two and dodged fallen trees. Turned out grumpy pony who didn't wanna go out. But equally would bash the door down if left in.

Mucked out with head torch at 0800 as no electricity and poor light in stable. Filled 7 haynets for the week, filled 7 bags for field hay (use Alfa a bags etc) drove up shop to get coffee to realise no electricity there either.

Got home electric back on, had coffee. Sat on sofa watched film, fell asleep, dogs kept me warm, waited for roof to blow off as that is how it sounded. Dragged self to tesco. Got home consumed fish pie ready meal. Bottle of wine. Some shortbread. Went to bed. Woke up feeling sick, NOT the bottle of wine!!! Now watching wedding crashers on sofa :)

Went up the yard mucked out/turned out the pony then we had our Christmas party (lucky we have a big tackroom as it didn't stop raining all day!) lots of food and mulled wine then we got the ponies in early as field was like a bog by that point and then came home :)

Longest day - but not the best day we have had so far this summer. Went for a wonderful ride thru the forest on Diva, which was lovely and fresh after last nights rain. Went to the Rangiora Races with the Riding Club. It was our end of year rally. Won big time in the first race, by betting $2.00 each way on a horse called Elegant Lustre, who paid out big time and I collected $70 for my $4.00 investment. But that was it for the day and it was all down hill from there. Ate too much, then had to go do the feeds and home to watch the Muppets and Lady Gaga special.

Spent the day in bed with mild flu/bad cold, whilst the D's did the neds.

Sulking as a) D1 back from first term at Uni and I was v looking forward to ned time with her, and b) I only get to see neds at the weekends at the moment.

Turned up, decided to take 4 year old out for a hack on the long lines (hasn't been out hacking for a few months) walked at a stupidly fast pace for an hour until my thighs were burning. Pony very good and only had a minor freak out at passing a laying down cow (understandable) and another one at a group of runners running towards her (also understandable) wonder if I should give up teaching and instead offer whole body unique fitness opportunities. Mucked out and went to see retired horse. Went home to eat body weight in chocolate and mince pies and then went back to the yard to bring in. Did 20 mins schooling with the youngster. Went home and ignored serious need for housework, instead opting to watch "obsessive compulsive cleaners" and tutting about the state people let their house get into. Pot, kettle, black...

My horse had some treatment on his back yesterday so needed the day off so I decided it was the perfect time to try and desensitise him to the clippers after his last clip cost me £75 due to him having to be sedated and its already growing back! So spent 10 minutes with him pretending they were going to kill him until he eventually stood, albeit, very tensely while I ran them along his neck and shoulder. Then turned him out and poo picked, mucked out and got his stable ready for tonight. Then I bought him a big bag of carrots on the way home :)

Dragged hairy native out of his stable into the slightly chilly yard to give him a tidy up. Argued about whether he needed his feet picked out (he did, but says I am wrong), got them done under threat of him having to listen to me sing otherwise...

Left said pony tied up with a bucket of hay, under husband's supervision. Asked husband to brush up any bits of hay that blew away whilst pony was eating. Went and mucked out.

Came out to find that very proud husband had brushed pony to within an inch of his life, undoing all my months of roughing him off! (Argh, now I need to rug :() And no, he had not been brushing up the stray bits of hay, so had to explain that to him more carefully.

Decided that pony clearly wanted to go back into his stable, as he had untied himself and was now standing with his head over his stable door looking in. Left him in with huge pile of hay and am sending husband up after lunch to turn him out for a few hours.

Husband has also promised to skip out stable, prepare evening feed and hay, and loose school him a bit. Am wondering when exactly along the way, this will be translated into give the pony lots of carrots..:D

Am on full livery Monday to Friday, so just need to pop up and drop off a new bale of chaff tomorrow, and take care of turnout on xmas day. May even get to ride!

rocked up about half 9...mucked out, turfed out and went back home........brew/walked dogs/lunch and now sat with a brew and cake... :D

horse is a youngster and dosent get ridden... :)

Got up about 8:30, tacked up and went for a hack round the park straight away (trying to beat the rain), much to Maddie's disgust. Then mucked out, did haynets, had coffee, hibiscrubbed and bandaged legs (very bad mud fever atm), had more coffee, re-organised my locker, and moved a round bale.

It's been a very productive day today, I think that riding first then doing everything else is a very good idea :).

Turned out about 7. Was supposed to meet friend for a ride but decided not to as it was windy and raining. Mucked out and was about to poo pick when friend rang to say she thought weather was going to calm down, so brought in, tacked up and met up for a hack. Got back, turned out, took tack back to house, got dogs and went poo picking. Then went to let a friends dogs out and got bitten!!!

Tried Kali in the English gag as prep for hunting on Boxing Day . . . I was very apprehensive as I'm not a fan of gags, but he went beautifully in it . . . how he'll be when they're out on the hunting field I don't know, but if he's unhappy Z will abandon and hack back to the lorry. She had brakes in the pelham, but he was leaning on it . . . about pulled her arms out (which can't have been fun for either of them - at least the gag has that "reinforced" half halt action which he should listen to more).

He jumped like a stag though (today), popped 1.20m like it was nothing - it was the nicest I've seen him jump EVER and I think it's because he is confident to bascule knowing that Z won't get smacked in the bottom by the cantle on her old saddle and end up halfway up his neck. We both love that new saddle :D.

went up walked across field said 'hello little ponio' checked legs, pocked hand under rug to check she was warm enough, got given a sloppy horsey kiss then left. she is out of work living out for a short while till I can move her a bit closer to home with a manege-wont be too long should be within the next next couple of weeks at the most - Woohoo Yipee

Just spent the better part of two hours doing housework. Bleargh!

Husband has rang to inform me that it is snowing at yard, and apparently baby pony is not pleased. I think I own the world's wimpiest native pony ever...

Husband also braved Tesco to pick up some carrots. I caved and asked him to get some, we needed milk anyhow. Apparently my having added "blood of my enemies", in rather large print, to the shopping list startled one or two nosy types who were reading the list as he searched for soup. My work is done! :D

I have electric fenced the perimeter of my winter fields, so that the horses can go back out in them tomorrow. I grazed them for a bit a month ago, but they have picked up nicely after a short break,so the pones have some grass for Christmas.

Did this thing called riding. Samba looked a bit shocked that it was peeing it down and her saddle was on the door.

We kept dry and on the way home the sun came out. Then took dogs on common for a...erm, paddle......

The popped into town to get last minute Christmas stuff.
