I got to spend the day with my gorgeous husband who is the love of my life and two wonderful sons - not forgetting a labrador, mini wire dachshund and a kind, gentle horse!!
A year ago I was having chemotherapy and thinking that I wouldn't be seeing another Christmas - I'm the luckiest person on the planet and of all the presents you could have, health and love truly are the best. Happy Christmas everyone!!!

Now that's what I call a proper present! All the very best for the future CB.

I've had a lovely quiet, relaxing day. The kids came over for lunch and OH and I have walked the dogs and done the horses.

Merry Christmas everyone! :)

How wonderful, what an amazing christmas pressent :)

I didn't get much this year, what with competition entries on the rise, getting a new pony, and a new saddle, but I got:

3 point breastplate
A photo album of my "year in the saddle" which my Dad made
A jokey present from parents and brothers, a periodic table jigsaw, as I am a random chemistry nerd!

Me and my brothers also shared a new iPod which is good - ours was the first model out!

I had a lovely Xmas though, got all that I asked for, and feel for the first time in ages that I really do not need anything else!

No horsey gifts as usual, i enjoy a day to be non horsey! I had a selection of cath kidston/laura ashley fabrics and a new sewing box, which most people might roll their eyes at but it really was the best present I've had in years! (OH bought me some bubble bath, becuase he knew I like to have a bath at night.......)

'I can't believe how much you all get for Xmas!! Perhaps I was an odd child brought up on the concept of it's the thought that counts rather than how much it costs!! Not even going to list what I got as it seems very meagre (but very lovely and I was delighted with what I got - have a husband with very good taste!).'

'We're also having a very lonely Xmas as none of our families have been able to reach us because of the weather, so we have a freezer stacked full of food - we were meant to be catering for 10 people today, but only the two of us.

Hooray for the above two posts, restores my faith in people. Others may be spoilt with materialistic over indulgence, but you know what is really important.

Awww, now that's what I call a perfect Christmas, cb. :D Sometimes we forget to appreciate the simple stuff, although I'd be happy with just a a gentle horse.

That's a bit much tbh - not everyone asks for things, they are given them as presents!. How do you know that its not combined with family members, or aunts/uncles/OHs etc.

Maybe they don't get anything new over the year, and wait till christmas or birthday to ask for things.
You shouldn't judge someone on how many presents recieved or how much money spent.

Its a present, and it is up to the person that buys the present to choose how much to spend. After all, christmas is about giving!

Sorry, but this comment annoyed me - what happened to christmas spirit?
So what if someone got lots of presents - dosent affect you in any way!

A numnah in mines and eowyns colours with our names on it
some new jodhs
some dvds
some smellies and perfumes

pastern wraps for Eowyns mudrash
some lickits for the guys

I also got the chance to do this......................

I got a truck! (Well sort of, I got some money from my late Grandad a few weeks ago so bought it myself :) )
I got some lovely perfume, a wind up headtorch (:D), some slipper boots, lots of chocolate, a couple of diaries - one hand bag sized and a big one for home, a back support (:D), usual underwear etc.
Wont see my Mum until the New Year so will get more then, I have been spoiled this year!

And if the previous posts annoyed me it doesnt affect you!, we are both entitled to our opinion.
Actually I think over indulgence affects us all, Christmas spirit is not about having lots of expensive presents. It is good to see people appreciating this.

Your comment comes across as preaching.

How do you know that someone who receives lots of gifts does not appreciate the spirit of Christmas - are the two things mutually exclusive?

My husband is in Afghanistan but he phoned so that was the best bit of the day :-)

However, a friend kindly came to spend xmas day and we have had a great time. Made a lovely lunch and drinking lots. I got a new toaster (needed!), some lovely socks and a cool mouse mat to brighten up my desk at work. My Mum should be visiting in the new year so not had that prezzie yet :-). Looking forward to giving her my gifts. My 2 adorable puppies are a week old today so been enjoying them as well. Could watch them for hours. First litter and am so excited about seeing them grow up and starting working!

Husband is due home mid Jan so looking forward to a nice celebration then. We also have our 10th anniversary to celebrate which was a couple of weeks ago.

Merry christmas everyone.

My favorite gift and I love it is from a three year old, who made me a coffee mat himself bless his heart the thought and care that went into making it for me, its really special.

Had a lovely quiet day, apart from 2 cows deciding to calf at both ends of the day! Luckily both babies and mums OK especially considering the below zero conditions. Why couldn't they have held on for a few more days as apparently have a thaw coming!

Had a lovely meal (unfortunately cooked by me so not so enthusiastic to eat it - too much effort. Home produced lamb - absolutely fantastic).

Got a gorgeous Barbour Utility jacket with liberty lining - seriously beautiful! Might be too scared to wear it around the snot monsters. Lots of long riding socks from friends, big box of favourite perfume/shower gel/body cream (Acqua di Parma Assoluta - v. happy as had run out), great books - Stieg Larrson Millenium trilogy, CD's - the best of Joy Division, Mumford and sons and Florence and the machine (both been meaning to buy for over a year! So very happy). And finally a XC silk that matchs my BP - thanks mum (if she was at all horsey, she would be matchy, matchy, and would despair of me)!!!

My boyfriend bought us a holiday to New York in 3 weeks time! So beyond excited! :D :D

My parents gave me a made to measure dressage saddle for each of my horses and a new tack locker for my lorry, and far too many other presents! Brothers got me a painting of headshots of my horses over the years, which I adore and made me blub :o

I'll await my bashing for being spoilt rotten :D Hope you all have had a great day x

You are spoilt rotten, but well done!!

You'll have a fab time in NY - have you been before? It is a brilliant city! Took my husband there for a surprise long weekend for his 30th birthday - had a fantastic time, just seemed to eat too much food the the whole time. Chinatown is particularly good and Howard Johnsons for breakfast on Times Square (so quintessentially American).

Be warned - at this time of year it is seriously cold. First time I went was in February - we had snowstorms while we were there and they just pile the snow up between the pavements (sidewalks) and the roads, so you have to climb over 6 ft piles of snow to get to the crossings!! Even for my husband's birthday in late March it was bitterly cold.

Empire State Building is worth the queues, the subway is an education (don't take the express train uptown as that will take you straight to the Bronx!!), and recommend walking a lot as you will see so much. Greenwich Village/West Village/Meat packing District/wherever the trendiest place at the moment is well worth a visit for galleries/culture/food etc.

The city is so much safer than it was - my first visit was 20 years ago and Times Square was so dodgy - was amazed at the difference 10 years later.

Sorry for the long message but I haven't been to NY for a long time - think I'm having withdrawal symptoms. Even going there for work hasn't jaded me!

Heya, thanks for the tips! I've been before when I was about 15 for 2 days whilst passing through, but literally didn't leave the shops :o so this time determined to see the sights. We're going to see Chicago on Broadway which made me look like this when he told me:  . BF has been many times and like yourself gets withdrawal symptons! :p xxx

Never been to any of the shows but think they are seriously amazing!

Forgot to mention the round trip on boat - it's a few hours long and interesting for most of it and then it gets a bit dull but is a nice trip. The host is always a bit camp - struggling actor I think!

First time I went to NY I went up the World Trade Towers and was seriously amazing (109 storeys high!!) - was looking up for Statue of Liberty then realised it was this little dot in the distance! You really cannot comprehend the height of that.

Really recommend the Empire State Building at night - queues less than 3 hours long and the light show is fantastic.

Ferry trip out to Statue of Liberty is supposed to be a really good day trip.

Haven't been to ground zero - last time I went was a year after it happened and was a bit raw as knew friends of friends that had been involved. Also when 9/11 happened I was in Milan for work - I'm in the textile industry and was at a textile show where a lot of NYers were. It was awful as we were all trying to contact people we knew in NY (some of our customers were trying to contact family members - it was awful). I don't think any of us can comprehend what happened that day.

You will have a seriously good time - it's such a contrast to our usual lives you get caught up in it. I don't think I could do it full time but it is fun for a few days. Have fun!!

Thanks for speaking some sense...also a lot of present buying depends on value...my mum sets a budget for what she will spend on each of us so you might get 10 presents or you might get one. Also I am a case of exactly what you say in the first line...we don't get extras during the year...because mum always says if you really want something and it isnt just a phase then you will wait for it.

Ive been very spoilt this year, I'm a very lucky girl! I won't go in to all that I got but I will tell you one my favourite presents!
It was one of the presents from my OH, it was a card that had cash in it for the January sales but the most important thing was what he had written 'for the love of my life at Christmas, I love you with all my heart' amongst some other more private lovely words. He is not a sentimental person at all and he NEVER writes cards or nice words so I was very very touched, so touched I didn't even count the money. I said his love was the most important gift to me. He said 'thats nice! I'll take the money back then' I said 'nah, you're alright' Lol.
I got some amazing other presents from OH and my family, I'm very blessed. We had a wonderful day, I loved seeing them open their presents and even if there were no presents we would still have had a wonderful Christmas, I love them all very much :) :) :).

My husband is in Afghanistan but he phoned so that was the best bit of the day :-)

That is lovely :) I hope you both have a lovely anniversary

I had a great christmas even though I had to work :(
I was very spoiled but the highlights were:
Veredus Piaffe Evo boots,
MacWet gloves,
Ariat jumper and coat,
Armani jeans and t-shirt,
Brand new laptop(more HHO time for me :))
And having the whole day with my amazing fiance because we hardly see each other now due to work commitments :(

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas :D

Not too much horsey stuff this year, a forum friend of mine sent me a lovely matching set (black bandages and embroidered saddlecloth), very very nice and I never expected such a big present! My mother-in-law sent a £30 RideAway voucher, which she does every year (she lives 5 mins away from RideAway, lucky her) and my parents gave me £500 which will be spent on the horses, as usual.

I think those are the only horse-related things I have received! All the other presents were for me or for the house. But as OH finally got me the MacBook Pro I have wanted for so long, I won't complain :D :D

I've had a fabulous christmas! So fabulous infact that we have yet to open any presents :p. However parents have said they will buy Max a lovely kate negus bridle :).

Shared christmas eve with very good family friends, who we did not think the wife would be alive this christmas after being told her cancer has come back :(. However it was a beautiful evening, and will be one very much to remember :).

Christmas day we shared with another set of family friends, we ate, laughed, made a whole new set of memories, everything you want to have at christmas :).

Today is just my immediate family, so will be spending it watching some films, opening a few pressies, and enjoying eachothers company :).

I had a lovely day, main present off parents was a swarovski crystal braclet and earring set, its absolutely gorgeous. I got two tripods (a normal one and a mini one that can be wrapped round most things, its really cool!) and a decent memory card for my camera which I was really chuffed with as I was planning on saving up for and buying myself and other bits and bobs.
Oh and I suppose getting this one back could be counted too :D

My parents are going to buy me some chickens when it's warmer which I'm so excited about :) I also got some tools for my veg plot so I don't have to beg and borrow any more and an apron as I'm a very messy cook!

I was very spoilt by my lovely hubbie (my new Irish colt is outside) but the best pressie was the excitement of my 5 year old son sitting on the floor of his bedroom opening his stocking & not even realising 'Santa' had left pressies downstairs. The look on his face when he did, eventually, go into the living room was priceless. Memories to treasure.

some lucky lucky people and some lovely stories :)

my best pressies were some ugg boots off my mum and some new cavallos off my OH (not really a suprise as i got them myself and gave them to him to wrap up for me and he gave me the money ;)) and some new yard boots from my dad to replace the ones my dog ate 18 months ago :D
other than that got loads of other nice things- clothes and books and stuff :) oh and ten tonnes of chocolate (new year diet is not going to go well ) and lots of booze :D

last year i got a puppy which was pretty cool so would take some beating! :D
has been wierd this year as my mum and dad are in the caribbean so first time i've not been with my family...

i had a lovely xmas with my wonderful family!!! i got a new brown kiefer bridle and loads and loads of other bits and pieces too!!! Seeing my childrens faces and the excitement of christmas written all over their faces is priceless and the best part of xmas for me!!!

PS they are totally spoilt by the way thats why i had them!!!!!!!!!!!
