Ok so it sounds cruel so what things have you done to put others off of riding horses or wanting to own/loan horses?? This is a tounge in cheek kind of post by the way so please no serious "you are so cruel" responses :p!

For example 1: Today I took my little (much younger) sister up the stables with me as shes decided she wants a pony and is constantly nagging my parents. I do all the assisted DIY on the yard and she wanted to help today so help she did, emptying wheelbarrows, forking up the muckheap, coming up and down the fields with me with horses.... By the end she no longer wanted a pony!! Well that sorted that out

Example 2 (more cruel and friend just told me): She wanted to put her sister off horses when she took an interest as didnt want to share her pony (as a younger child) so said: "i put her off by doing lead rein games and making pony run as fast as poss and then spinning her round the top so she fell off , mwhahahaaa"

Hahahaaaa made me nearly die - so what sort of things have you done to put others off riding being selfish or not as a child or adult?? :D

I remember this very well! There was this really snotty girl at school once who could ride any horse she was put to, even a very naughty one. She came around to my house once and I took her to go and see my pony and ride it around the field, so we tacked him up and I was saying that my super safe pony wasn't very safe anymore as he would rear up and gallop off with you. So ofcourse she was her snobby self "oh yes I'll handle that easy". I insisted I warmed him up first and 'demonstrate' his actions.
As a matter if fact, being a youngster I taught my pony to rear (safely) on command and canter from halt. So I just told my pony to do that and start screaming and appear to be holding on for dear life.
Stopped the pony and asked if she wanted a go, she was off in a flash :D that showed her that she wasn't all that brave after all ;)

Me and my friend shared a pony once and a girl at school was always asking to come and ride. She thought she was brilliant and would trot along, back perfectly straight, nose in the air - the type who gets expensive new boots four weeks into having lessons.

Anyway, this pony wasn't the most well behaved, a very cheeky boy. She used to really get annoyed by him. Me and my friend would aim whips at his bum to get him to buck, gallop past on another horse to get him going and just generally scare her - nothing worked! This girl would not clear off!

Final straw for her was she was riding the pony in the field next to the lane. Friend comes down the lane with her other horse in the trailer. Pony pricks his ears and bolts off through two fields to get to the horse - the girl is leaning back, trying to stop him, and is instead is encouraging him to go faster! I am wetting myself at this point, as is my friend. It isn't until he skids to a stop at the fence that the saddle slips and she face plants into the mud, so she has some serious superglue on that bum! I must admire that last bit of riding she did but she never came again!

My pet peeve has to be height obsessed people when it comes to jumping. So I'll just whack it up a good few holes above that height mentioned to a BSJA standard type fence and say go over it then.

Same goes for a lot of things like that. Half the things I could do to sort out riding problems, I don't as I couldn't do it to the horses if I'm honest! We have one wonderfully schooled horse here....but my god if you don't ride quiet, very quiet, you'll be there doing laps round the school flat out for hours. Not even in an amusing fashion! Hence why I wouldn't do it. I actually have a conscience lol.

Daughter has a 'friend', who regularly invited herself round to ride our ponies. Said 'friend' rides not very well, doesn't spend the hours schooling and riding properly like her other friends do but prefers to bomb about. If I'm not heavily supervising, the jumps get put up while my back is turned. Anyhow one day I'd decided ponies had probably had enough, and it was time to cool them down and get off but 'friend' ignored me and carried on round the jump course. Rather than shout lots or physically catch pony and stop her, I just let her carry on, knowing full well this particular pony HAD had enough (you could almost see him sarcastically raise his eyebrows 'not again!' as he went past) and he put in a big stop depositing her neatly on the jump - she has a lousy leg position so her centre of gravity was in front anyway.

I found it difficult to keep a straight face but had to say 'I told you so'. Funnily enough she's not invited herself round as often since.....:D

When I was little my little sister wanted to ride my pony one evening, we were in the indoor school, and I was on the ground and swooshed the schooling whip, which freaked my pony out, and bucked her off. she never wanted to ride my pony again after that.....

just want to ad, she has ridden loads of my horses over the years.... shes a terrible rider, and falls off lots... no assistance necessary lol

I made my friend who didn't ride get on my pony bareback and then made him trot!!!!!!

God, that was so mean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
