I paid 1.2k for mine; 4yo who ran twice, once on the flat and once over hurdles.
He was expensive for a useless racehorse, but I bought him for his super temperament in all ways and the fact that he was a gangly type who was clearly going to grow into a very smart event type. He was 15.2hh when bought last year and when measuring him last week he is a hair off 16.2hh!
Very excited with him as a prospect, just ironing out a few minor niggles and then BE90 this season is the aim.
I bought him direct from the trainer through the owner (a friend of a friend) and I really wanted him; so would have paid a little more if needed.
A good horse is always a good horse regardless of whether it is an ex-racehorse or not; I would always look carefully and now go for the lower mileage ones; but dad's best horse was an ex-chaser who ran up until he was 12 andf then went pointing!
Good luck.
