what difference did you notice between your horse as a 4yo and a 5yo?

OMG a massive difference.

He is sane and sensible now and not trying to catapult me 50ft in the air.

Also just alot braver , much less spooker. Taller and wider. He can be a little cheeky in the fact he might be a tad grumpy at you which a year ago he never would have but now he gets a bit cross with me at times.

hoping mine is going to be the opposite!!

she's very laid back I'm hoping when she's not putting so much effort into growing she could put a bit more fizz into certain things! she now enjoys cantering out on hacks which before she would rather walk so were going in the right direction!

My lad was a lazy so in so as a 4 year old.

As a 5 year old I spent a lot of time on the ground ;) They usually test their boundries somewhat at that stage!

I didn't notice a big difference. Winter of his 4 year old year we started to have teenage tantrums! But he stopped his bucking and grew a lot stronger and mentally mature. He looked very different physically from 4- 5 year old. went up a size in all his rugs.

As mine was positively angelic at 4 I was braced for a year of hell when she turned 5, but no.

She's stronger and doesn't tire so easily now, she's also more balanced but she's the same character. Mainly wonderful, but occasionally too smart for her own good, and stressy in certain circumstances, but always rocksolid under saddle.

Mine was great at 4....if a little spooky, but at the start of this summer he found reverse gear, he bucked more, found that he could rear, spin etc etc etc. 6 months on and he is much better again, and has found proper gallop.....

He is much better in traffic and with machinery etc now.

Physically, I haven't noticed he has grown or filled out much, but other people say he has....I guess he won't be finished till he's about 7 though?

daughters pony as a 4 yr old was a super star, leading out nicely, starting to work independantly and just generally lovely, as a 5 yr old he has been threatened with the glue factory on more than one occasion, the fabulous 4's turned into the f'ing 5's overnight:rolleyes:

this could be interesting then! i look forward to what the next year brings! i hope we can move a little further forward at competitions and be more consistent - some days she pulls it out the bag and we get 71.7% intro and 68%prelim then a couple of weeks later its all far too distracting and we plummet to 55% quite disheartening but thats youngsters - great levellers! we also have an audition for a sharon hunt demo in a couple of weeks so hopefully she can find her brave pants for that!

Oh don't be mistaken mine was a lazy bugger at 4 years old

AND

Is still a flaming lazy bugger..!!!

Think that's just his nature , he can't be bothered ever moving lol
