What disiplines can you use Bling Browbands in?

Whether they are officially banned in the rule book for BD or not, 99% of people BD have a bling browband - the ones who don't are usually eventers being tourists...

You can also spot the latter at BSJA because they will be wearing tweed, a stock, plain saddle cloth, skull cap and plain browband with no bling.

You could wear one BE, but people might laugh at you...

Having said that, in the dressage at Badmintont one year, someone had crystals stuck on to her horse's quarter marks...

See - I think I must brake the mold! I'm not really a proper eventer but have the tweed, a stock, plain saddle cloth, skull cap but have the blingest of bling pink brow band!

I think I'm just confused!

Not sure as to legal or not... but would have thought "bling" would be a bit of a dressage thing?

I wore one today at an unaffiliated dressage comp, and judge wrote on sheet not dressage legal affiliated...

We still won though!

How totally bizarre!

Well done though!

I'm not a 100% sure but I think that you shouldn't wear ribbons etc or anything that unduly attracts the judges attention -- was it a huge sparkly browband?

I did two qualifier BD classes today (novice open and elementary), came 2nd in both, and had a 'v' shaped bling browband on my horse. No comments on either of my sheets about it...... Ive had it on him for nearly a year now and never had a comment about it. Its quite a sparkly one altho only one row of little diamonte bits.

Ah, i dont think you are allowed chain browbands, you can have leather with small diamonte inset into it tho.

Bridles may not be decorated with tassels or any additions to the normal configuration

Hence why you cant use a chain browband as this isnt normal for a bridle, however a leather browband is allowed - therefore you can have leather with diamonte inset.

BD rule book 2008 says :
Rule 52 (part)
Bridles may not be decorated with tassels or any additions to the normal configuration.
Rule 55 (part)
Any unusual decoration of the horse with unnatural things such as ribbons, flowers, glitter etc in the mane/tail applied to the coat is forbidden. Discrete red bows in the tail are permitted for horses that kick.

I think the judge doesn't like bling and was choosing to interpret the rules above to cover it

I can't find anything in the rule book about chain browbands - perhaps ask BD for advice? (they are usually quick to reply to emails).

If you go to any of the BD Premier leagues you'll see plenty of blingy browbands and lots of glittery quarter marks! Our groom has a chain browband on her double bridle, she has never had any comments on it.
