Hello...
Yes random/odd question but ..
How much does the average allrounder sell for in Ireland
trade/private ?
or just any 16.2 suitable to hunt ?

Reason I ask is ... A livery is looking for a horse ... 16.2+ MW to do RC / Hunt for the autumn/winter .. and is having no luck over here so she is considering making a trip over to Ireland but surely they sell for about the same as over here and are as just in demand aswell ?

I think you need to know someone to get you in contact with horses worth going to see...every horse we look at in the paper is 'quiet and honest' and we haven't seen more than one fit that description!

Horses here (Ireland) are lots cheaper - but you really need to know where to look. Thing is if you are coming over from England the Irish boys are gonna charge you English prices im afraid unless you know someone here.

hahaha! a lot cheaper?! No, fraid not, the price of Irish horses in trhoug the roof at the moment, unless your buying something unproven. You would be better off just leaving exactly what you want to a few good dealers here and seeing what they come up with. I do know of one horse that would do you friend proud, but we are in surrey. Its an 8 yr old proven hunter / RC horse, stunning looking and they want £8000 for it. PM me if you want the number.

Agree. A friend in Ireland buys them in euros for the same price as they quote us english in pounds sterling! Needless to say anymore we buy will be via my Irish friend, not that we are in the market for another horse at the moment.

A good hunter is worth alot more in Ireland - I have a friend who deals them.

We get all the horses who have done their job in ireland - and I've brought two of them... ;-)

Don't you think it's a bit like warmbloods and we only get sold the cr*p that the irish don't want? My two certainly have issues and it's made me realise that my next horse will be british!

Yes! I totally and completely agree with you PR, but so long as there are people who continue to buy these horses at inflated prices, the market will remain buoyant.

Guess so Tia - after saying that above, OH will prob get an IDx but we'll probably go to Ireland to buy it rather than wait for something that's been shipped over here.

Once again I agree with you, and that's what I would do too. Buy within their internal market, rather than purchase something destined for overseas because it possibly isn't good enough. You could of course, look for a British bred IDx

, but then you come down to price; British breds are generally more expensive, and so the story goes on - Catch 22 really.

Isn't it always?! I'd love a CB x but they seem to be like rocking horse poo!

I've got a friend who hunts with County Clare so I'm hoping he can turn us up something nice when the time comes....
