I recently bought a 13.1hh unbroken gelding and i keep him in a field with my friends pony. he is being sent away in a week to be professionaly broken for a few weeks. she has decided to sell him and he can't stay in the field past september as the land owner wants them out. Do i sell him in sept as recently backed or do i move him to a livery yard for the winter and sell him in the spring? Im 22 and weigh 8st, would i be ok to lightly hack him through winter if i did decide to keep him?

market goes down in winter and might have trouble selling him then?

I would look else where for a field or stables depends what you want really and how much money he will be worth next spring taking into account all livery costs .. are you doing it to make money or have some fun??

I'd sell him in the spring - not many people will want to be working on a recently backed pony through the winter, and if they bought him to turn away you wouldn't get as much for him. you are plenty light enough to ride him yourself, I would think, unless he is partcularly lightweight. If you want to have some fun keep hold of him
