ideas please :)

I have so many bits and pieces (brushes, hoof picks, hoof oil, detanglers etc etc) that they all dont fit in my grooming bag so I end up with bits everywhere - so looking for a bright idea for something easy to carry with one hand and that can store everything ...

Thanks :)

Mines a big solid plastic tool box. It's got a tray at the top for hoofpicks, combs etc, you can stand bottles under the tray, its strong enough to stand on for plaiting, and the lid has little pull out plastic tubs with dividers that are great for pulling combs, bands, needle & thread etc. Had it about 15yrs, think it came from wilko or b&q. By comparison, my daughters proper horse version from a tack shop will be lucky to last a few years, & would probably break if a kid used it to stand on.

I actually use one of those smaller two handled flexible plastic buckets. I have one for brushes and one for boots. It's great because everything is right to hand, I can just chuck everything in there or grab when need be, light and easy to carry. And they won't crack if they get kicked on trod on!

Why do people mostly refer to grooming kits boxes/trays/baskets as 'tack boxes'? Waits for everyone to say "Well, I don't!:p" :D

I use a tool box type thing now, brushes at the bottom, bts and pieces in a tray on top. Actually, most of the time my brushes end up on ledges.

I like wicker baskets, but the current one seems to have been adopted as a cat bed, and as I never brush my horses anyway it doesn't matter.

After people were using my things and also my tack tray even with a cover let wet and dirt in, I opted for a B&Q own brand tool box which I can put a padlock on to keep things safe and clean. Much cheaper than buying a horse branded expensive one.

I use a grooming box for most of my stuff and then have hairdresser shelf/boxes for the rest. Anything else, is hung up as and where around my storage area :D

I have a b&q tool box for the lotions and potions, grooming bag for brushes , my mare seemed to make it a personal mission to trample and destroy the plastic boxes no matter where it was...,and i take the wicker basket for showing

I use a Stanley tool bag I got for our local hardware shop. Like a big canvas and plastic bucket with a space in the middle for brushes etc and lots of little pockets and hooks round the outside for hoof picks, combs, bags of plaiting bands etc etc etc. Sturdy carrying handle over the top so easy to move with one hand, doesn't break if kicked or trodden on and washable. Perfect.

I have a shires grooming kit box with essential brushes in. I use a plastic box with flip top lid to store all my spare brushes and I have a cupboard for lotions and potions.

Multiple buckets and bags . . . one of those grooming bags for basic, everyday grooming items (brushes, hoof oil/cornucrescine, pulling combs, plaiting bands, hoof picks), a bucket just for washing stuff (sweat scraper, sponge, shampoo, etc.), another bucket for extras not used quite so regularly such as Keratex, purple spray, Sudocrem, vaseline, etc. All of these are kept in a large wooden box outside my stable.

Years ago I used proper, solid tack boxes, then when it broke started using an old supplement bucket. At Christmas I was given a fab bag, waterproof, drawstring inner, pockets and both handles an shoulder strap. brilliant.

I used a tray from the pound shop to carry everyday brushes and picks etc, and left everything else in my locker until needed. I think it's useful to downsize your grooming kit every so often anyway, as the amount of stuff that gets gathered up is amazing!

Thanks for your replies - by the looks of the replies a trip round B&Q at the weekend may help :) failing that I think I will re-cycle a largeish old bucket ...

My horse's tying up place is a little way from my storage area so it drives me mad as sods law what I want is not in my grooming bag  hence wanting something large enough to hold everything but portable too ..

I use a Stanley tool box for bottles etc and it doubles up as a mounting block, my tack cleaning stuff in a Bentley grooming kit bag (£2.50 from a charity shop) and my grooming kit proper in an old camera bag my daughter was throwing out. I love this bag - it's got lots of pockets, and bits sectioned off with elastic for hoofpicks etc and a roomy bit in the middle for brushes, which HAVE to go in on their ends to fit them all in, but it keeps them tidy and in one place.

I use a big plastic storage box with a lid for bath time. Shampoos and sponges are better kept on their own, I find! Maybe I'm unlucky but the bottles always seem to leak.

Money saving tip - your local Wilko, Home Bargains or even B&Q are half the price of anything prefixed with "equine" and there's such a lot to choose from too :D
