Bulk him up abit ?? I think he will need more than that , This poor youngster is suffering from malnutrition , Its going to take alot more than just bulking it up .
Start paying your vet bill now if your thinking about buying this youngster .
I agree with shil , Dont spend your money on people that are producing this kind of youngster .
To my eye, there is nothing appealing about him. Looks very scraggy and agree about putting pictures up 'that don't do it justice' etc. Take some decent ones! Having said that though, poor colt is probably no better looking in summer, obviously needing care and attention.
The eyes are very weird, I would have to get them checked.
I don't like it at all, and if you buy, you are feeding the dealer and not really saving the horse, more encouraging them to get another like it. I too, would be wary about potential liver problems either pertaining to grazing, or through lack of worming care

i can afford him with ease and look after him 24/7
yes he needs to be wormed and feed to bulk him up abit.
shils i was asking opinions not full blown whack personally..

I asked about money...and about expertise.
You've answered that you have lots of money....which leads me to draw obvious conclusions.
It never ceases to amaze me why people like yourself ask for opinions and advice, then turn arsy when they are different to your own...why post if you are already sure of what you are going to do?
Good luck, either way.

Im not saying i have lots of money, and i asked for opinions as i thought to myself he looked bad but me being a hater for people looking after horses badly wanted to give him a nice home where there would be a chance for him to lead a happier life. I am not being arsy at all thankyou.

Ok, I appreciate that the sentiment (to help a horse in trouble) is a good one...but you'd be better calling the authorities/leaving him to someone with more expertise in rehabilitating horses, particularly youngsters, and find yourself an equally deserving, but less challenging nice all rounder instead.
Then you'd be able to give the horse a very happy life, lots of attention, and the horse would make you happy; you could ride, go to shows, have fun.
I'm not having a go at you - just trying to make you aware of the huge time/money and emotional drain that a sickly youngster can be......
I shouldn't have said 'arsy' - sorry, but you will get all sorts opinions on here....be prepared when you post!
There are better horses in the world to be wasting your hard earned cash on - and plenty more that are in need of a good home as well.
I would suggest that if all the other horses that have come out of there have been in good condition, then this one has an underlying medical issue. He also has something very strange going on with his eyes, and you can tell an awful lot about a horse by its eyes.
If you have your heart set on him then good luck to you and enjoy him. I just dont think that he is a sensible buy.
Ive decided to go to another place and look at horses after all the trouble and opinions, i just hope this youngster can find a good place and be happy!
QR - What would you want him for?(eg. riding wise in the future!) If you can afford him plus the impending worming, vet etc bills might you be as well to go and look for something with a good conformation, and that has been well looked after and unlikely to have as many problems as this poor chap! I think for the amount they're asking you could find yourself a much nicer yearling.
Not to say he wouldn't turn out to be a fun pony, but with his faults i cant see him being of any more value than £750 even in a few years time! If you do go ahead, I would offer them a hell of a lot less than £750.
Good luck whatever you decide...

Agree - I hope things work out for the cob, too.

Got to admit, I would be SO tempted to buy him just to give him a decent home - but I also fully appreciate the comments about not encouraging the b*stards who breed and mistreat horses like this. They make me sick
I think it would be a whole lot of heartache though Hannah17 with no guarantee of success
If you want to give a horse thats had a rough time a nice home then go to a rehoming centre. Or buy a nice horse that will appreciate a nice home in just the same way.
That youngster looks sickly, not just undernourished.
I also wonder why they havent yet had him gelded. If I were selling youngsters that would be my first action. I know theyve offered to do, but why havent they done it already? Its not good enough to be kept entire in my opinion.
I agree you should report them if you want to do your bit.
He is very upright, its a common cobby trait.
It can result in lots of concussion type injuries.
I wouldnt waste the money on petrol going to see it if it where me. Most people put in the effort to take advert specific pictures, you just need to look at all the posts on here aking for advice on what pic to use. So why hasnt a supposed professional done so?
Sorry - posted before I saw your reply. I think thats a good idea.
He is in seriously bad condition and personally i wouldn't buy him...BUT...years ago i bought a coloured cob in much the same condition (he was a 3 y.o) and owned by a very questionable "riding school" i couldn't walk away and leave him, especially after the lady told me "You can ride him with a bit of baling twine in his mouth" !!!! He turned into the most fantastic little horse, done everything from showing to x-country...so you never know! It's a LOT of work though not to mention time and money to get them right again.
I also wouldnt touch him, or the place that bred him, with someone else's long barge pole.
However they state he is out of a spotted mare, hence the 'appalossa' markings around the eyes. So I dont think there is anythig wrong with his eyes, thats just part of the spotted gene he inherited
