What do we all think of the new horseboxes

Looks awful and terribly unsafe! Loving how, on the demo vid on the H&H email news report, the horses keep changing re. number of them and direction facing.
'Could be useful for horses that find ramps difficult', heres a tip that will save £42k...... Train the damn things to walk up a ramp!

Trust me - I'm talking from experience here - there are some horses that no matter what training, patience, skilled advice you buy in, there are some horses who STILL are difficult to load. I know, I have one, and it is so disheartening and stressful. So, if this did solve that issue (so long as it was safe of course) then amen!!!!!!!!!

i would be worried that if there was a problem how would you get the horses off quickly - though i think a great idea for emergency to vets etc?

If your horse is worried about enclosed spaces it won't load into that. On the other hand if you have shed loads of money but don't want to pay more than one set of road tax and insurance and have a requirement for a lorry to do more than one thing - haul loads as well as a horses then I suppose it might be of some use. A guy local to us has a flatbed with a demountable Ifor body and uses it mainly for his business but can turn it into a horse lorry if he needs to. Seems like a very expensive way to go about it though.

I think they would be much better putting there time and effort into devloping a goose neck/mini artic trailer to go with the pick ups alot of us horsey folk have, in the states lorrys are very very rare !!!everyone has a trailer from a tiny two horse to a 40ft monster with huge and well equiped living...

How would you tow it in an out of a muddy field. It would be a nightmare for getting stuck. Also would it not belly out on speed bumps or hilly roads, it looks too close to the ground. Also, if a horse doesn't walk up a ramp its hardly going to hop up into that is it? I think it is a bit of a mental idea and I think I will stick to my lorry. It must be the most frustrating thing ever to have a horse that wont load.

tbh, if your horse doesn't like boxing it wont like this! in my experience horses don't like the confined space they're not too bothered anout the bloody ramp :p

The only plus I can see is in a breakdown, you could change over the boxes without unloading the horses.
That is providing the box comes off with some sort of backup system.

Issues I can see, the two back doors swing out to the side, there will be a weak point at the top where they meet, and there's no latch at the top to keep them closed, thinking horse sitting on it.

The back doors won't open don't open with the tail lights/number plate in the way, thinking about people that don't use the box knowing what do in an emergency.

The box strength it self as no chais to take the blow if hit from behind

The strength of the box lasting over time and rusting ESP since if being left off all week, it may rust quickly. And you can't pop it on bricks as the box won't be the right height to pick it up.

The breeching straps don't look very strong, no breast bar, just chains too.

I think it works for other work lorries, ie unloading stock quickly but I don't think it works with horses

That video made my head spin  I cannot see the point of all those moving parts. It seems unnecessarily complicated. If horses don't like ramped trailers then getting a step up trailer seems the logical conclusion.

Just watched the vid

No where to put tack

I wonder how many people would reverus into the box with the tail light down

The hook think to pull down the top doors will go missing in hours.

Oh and there seems a lot of stop starting.

Get in the lorry drive to box
Get out lift the tail lights
Load up
Get out put down the tail lights,

Then the same when you get to where you are going

Everyone has big trucks and trailers here because petrol is cheap (about 63p/liter? Am I converting that right? It's over $3.80/gallon right now)

Those big trucks get something like 10 miles per gallon towing a heavy American trailer.

What the US needs is more European style trailers! Sadly our Brenderup factory closed last year, and we can't get Ifor Williams, Richardson Rice etc trailers.

I do think the truck idea in the OP would be a good idea for the US if the horse box part could be converted to a stable so the horse has a place to hang out during a show. Some of the shows I go to are 3-6 hours each way to get to, and stabling costs a lot over a weekend. A tack area would be needed though!

I too agree it looks rather over complicated for what it is.

I would be paranoid about the lifting and lowering mechanism failing. As far as i can see if it broke down and your horse was in there you would have to try and back them out, but without a ramp they would just fall down the drop. You wouldnt be able to open the side ramp.

Imagine having an accident that hit the side arm or rear of the contraption - how the hell would you get the horses out!!

There are other models I think that have not only tack areas, but living as well.

It is HORRIBLY frustrating when your horse simply plants half way up a ramp. I have tried so many methods, so many "experts" and spent a small fortune in trying to crack this nut. It's had me in tears, I don't mind telling you, and I'm no wimp either. So for those of you who don't have this issue, thank your lucky stars.

Chico is the same, have had a massive battle with him and it is still ongoing at times. However I wouldnt ever put him in one of these boxes, just dont see how they are safe if a fault or accident were to occur.

For Chico's ramp issues I have bought a renault master coahcbuilt with a ramp so low if i took it off completely he could still just step up onto the box! He still has silly paddys about it though so i think it is more the box itself than the ramp.

Awful!
That doesn't look at all safe to me. Is it just me or do the back 'doors' look really flimsy?! I know our hates-to-travel horse would be kicking those to pieces!

Posibly closed because the market is tiny for euro bumper pull trailers in the US because you can get anything from a 2 horse to a big trailer with living made in the US, we have pick ups here!!! and our big horse boxes do 10 mpg the smaller 7.5 ton about 20, and the tiny ones that carry one horse about 30mpg so no reason not to tow a gooseneck here!!!

I was totally shocked when i watched the video but made me think, your at a competition, you hardly get much space as it is, the amount of flaffing about to get your horses out, then fix it all back together again, where are you putting the horses in the process :o
