Managed to hoodwink the OH into taking some pictures of Bailey last night after I finished riding [the ridden pictures were terrible and not helped by lighting!]

Bailey is rising 5 [5 in May] and is a Warmblood x TB [approx 3/4 WB to 1/4 TB]. He is standing at 16hh, and is really beginning to physically mature now. He has been ridden away since last August and is coming on brilliantly.

He does have a thick winter coat [aware saddle covers rib area] but can feel his ribs easily. He has dropped off a little, but given an influx of Dr green is around the corner, I'm not too worried. He doesn't have any fat pads etc anywhere.

We've taken our time with him, and I'm aware that he isn't hugely muscled, particularly on his neck - this is work in progress :D we are in no hurry and no need to rush him. Work wise he is ridden 5 times per week - twice in school for no more than 30 minutes and 3 times a week out hacking which has some hillwork incorporated in it. When schooling he does work in an outline, but not consistently yet. Again, not too worries as it'll come.

What do we think? CC welcome - put constructively though please :)

Thanks!

Lovely boy, lots to like and as you say, when his neck changes shape he will look more in proportion.

He will give you years of pleasure. good luck.

Thanks!

He is such a dude, he really is. He is proving to be a sensible sort, and I have been beaming from ear to ear every time I have ridden him!

I have had confidence issues previously, and still get the odd wobble, but I have come on in leaps and bounds with him. Last night [when these were taken] I went into the school with initially one other and eventually a second horse in there, without any of my friends or YO with me who normally are around when I ride as it gives me a bit more confidence knowing they are there.

It sounds lame, but it was such a big leap for me to do that when for at least the last couple of years it seemed completely out of reach for me to be able to just go up to the yard after work, tack up and ride like everyone else.

Very lucky to have such a brilliant boy :D

No CC from me, (im useless at it:rolleyes:) Just wanted to say what a lovely boy he is! Your work load would be just what i would want for a baby bringing on, and as you say his muscle development will come with time and steady work.

Am i right in thinking hes an unusual colour for being tbx wb? and a biggun too! hes just gorgeous! Love the last pic...hes like 'muum im tired now, i worrked sooooo hard!:D'

Good luck with him, he sounds like hes taking everything in his stride and being a little star :)- what are your plans for him?

ps. i love the bloke on the grey working around you looking over veeeryy interested in your OH taking the pictures lol.

Thanks very much for the replies!

I'm not sure really regarding unusual colour for a wb x tb. I posted a thread about this a while ago after my vets made the same observation and the opinion was so so as to whether the colours were that common or not!

He is taking it all in his stride! He is very good at deciding when he's too tired to carry on (normally after 5 mins) and then he realises he isn't going to get away with it and works beautifully!

Plans are just to have fun :D hacking, trying our arm at dressage and perhaps trying out some showing. I'm not really up to jumping and he hasn't quite worked it out yet so maybe we'll try that one day, but I'm just happy enjoying him at the end of the day. He is a cracker, and most at my yard think he'll excel at whatever we do :D

I admire you for admitting you have had confidence issues and I admire you for tackling your issues.

I think that little horse has fallen on his feet being in your ownership and I am sure he will help you build your confidence in yourself and him.

Believe in yourself and him and don't worry about what other people may say.

Good luck.
