what do we think of this horse?

Read the advert differently.

With all that, alleged talent and experience and aged 9, he should be at the top of his game, capable of being successful competitively and worth plenty.

In my view, he is a horse with soundness problems and/or behavioural problems that has probably had a number of homes in quick succession, finally ending up in a dealer yard.

I have seen him advertised in the past under the name of Guinness in the usual pose that a certain dealer in south, likes to use - plaited but not rolled up, no tack.

Buyer beware, the picture of him jumping the five bar gate is from the you tube clip taken in 2012 at the dealers in Kent, interesting he was aged 9 with them, and remains 9 from the dealer in Nottingham a year later. I would think the 2 yards are linked and commute dodge pots between the 2 areas. He was in much better condition in 2012 than he is now, almost unrecognisable in fact. Be careful.

Buyer beware, have a closer look at his eye on the picture of his head.

All this, if it seems to good to be true it probably is.

A google search turned up this , hopefully it will work, www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hSf3YHxM3c

Poor chap looks like he needs a good meal :( he looks lovely in the xc video, I can't watch the other one on my phone. Personally, I'd go and view purely because I'd always wonder 'what if' if I didn't, but just be careful and have a vetting :)

He's only 9 and I follow the SC Dublin hunt... Don't think I've ever seen him?! Doesn't mean he hasn't been - could have been of course, but just questioning it?? Sorry, he looks like a lovely, genuine horse, I am always cynical!! :)

Looks so different in the vids and some of the pictures!
I would want to know which are the most current pics, if he looks like the flatwork pic on the ad now, I would be wary and wondering how he has managed to get into that condition at this time of year?

thanx - have cancelled. poor horse :-(

What a shame. Smashing horse.

I suspect there's an injury that has cut his career short - hence the price.

But was well worth seeing. Had I been nearer I'd have been sitting on his back tomorrow.

Really, really nice short.

Good choice canceling, I wouldnt go there simply because its a dealer who has advertised on horsemart before but is now on a new account looking at the date they are a member from. Why would an honest dealer need to open a new account...

i texted to cancel & they texted back stating kent dealer was overstocked hence them selling him & offered me a 2 week trial. after buying a horse from a dealer that broke down after a week & only xrays showed the extent of the damage, dont want to risk it. why is he still for sale a year later if such a good horse?

i love h&h - saved me a journey :-)

I hope I have not offended you, it was me the posted the first doubt on the horse. Apologies if I have.

I cannot go into much detail because the thread will be pulled. But I viewed horses in a Kent yard a few years ago and when they realised I am no mug they asked me to leave. All I had done was point out patched up tendons, thoroughpins and capped hocks on horses I was being told had clean legs.

Good luck in your search, something will come along in due course. I would never put anyone off buying from a dealer. I do and my last big dealer purchase took me to HOYs twice and has provided me with some fantastic days. However, keep eyes open, taken anything said with a pinch of salt and take someone with you who is not emotionally involved and knows your wants, needs and capabilities really well. Regards Alice.

It's a shame you cancelled, he looked well worth a look if you only wanted him for hacking.

So what if it is a dealer?!

I always think if there are any doubts, walk away, not matter how good it looks. Trusting gut instinct should never be a bas thing.

In the video of popping a few cross country jumps, he loos lovely, but I did have a few issues with the canter movement at certain points. One of those things you can't pin point, but just leaves you feeling uncertain.

I would say he is just probably not competition sound anymore as a horse like him at his age should be out competing now and worth a lot more.

That in itself doesn't mean he won't make a great hacking and low level competition horse but the risk is not knowing why he is restricted. Could be simple, could be something degenerative and a vetting, even 5 stage may not get to the bottom of it. No point forking out for all the work that needs to be dome to get to the bottom of it for a horse you then won't buy if it is bad news. Dealer won't spend that money, hence just dropping price and trying to get rid.

Such a shame as a lovely looking type. A victim of the kind of owners that encounter problems and pass them on to others :(

Only_me I personally have no problem with buyer from dealers but to me a genuine dealer with an accurately described horse wouldnt need to change accounts and sell as private. They would be openly selling as trade under there business name confident in the knowledge that their good reputation would attract the buyers

thanx amymay - wont let me pm you back on my phone. is it good or bad on fb? lol. & the seller is a dealer as google their number & also offered me a 2 week trial.

Nothing bad. Although it's now apparent they've only had him for a few weeks.

Poor, poor horse. One destined for the sales ring and the meat man I suspect.

What a terrible shame and an awful waste.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise who is selling the horse now, of course they will pretend to be private...no comeback then ;). They have lots of links with the original seller..also they txt OP saying they had taken the horse as other yard overstocked so that sounds like they are a dealer..Anyway it's all a moot point as OP sensibly has cancelled.
If something sounds too good to be true it normally is! Good masters horses sell for ££££ usually.
I do feel sorry for the horse though, he would have been a good horse at one point :(.

That is a shame, he is a lovely sort - the type it's nice to have in the yard alongside the youngsters for a bit of stress free jumping - really like the look of him

i agree - poor horse. he looks like such a sweetie so it must be injury related but 5* vettings dont always bring up problems that xrays would. wish someone wouldve been honest about this poor lad instead of going from dealer to dealer :'(

No one has necessarily been dishonest.....

I agree it is a real shame as we are talking about a living being here :(

However if the advert and reasons for selling were totally honest then he might find a suitable home. Now doubt has been cast over it you can't be sure what is true or not.
