I went for a second viewing on a 5 year old ID x today & my friend rode him - what do you think and would you pay 3k for a green 5 year old? Rubbish photos as was holding my crying (well screaming) baby lol:

Thanks in advance :-)

He looks nice, hard to say properly from those photos. How does he move? Even if he is green and gangly you can usually tell from their action and paces what they could turn into..

We paid £3k for a 4yr old green ISH six years ago. He could barely canter in the school, he was that unbalanced, but he had amazing paces and a good "leg at each corner" frame. He took until he was nearly 8 to stop growing and mature, but has turned into a super horse. In this climate I would be inclined to haggle a bit perhaps.

Humm I would ask why at 5 he is in a grackle, He does not have a lot of weight on him for peak summer months. What was he like to ride and would he get fizzy with weight on.

3K is a lot IMO for a green horse. Pretty with a nice face.

Was also wondering about hind legs as his feet look to be slightly out-turned? Also, is that a Cheltenham gag he's got in? I know he doesn't have a rein on the gag at all but would be inclined to ask about this (personal preference). If you love him and you think he moves nicely/has the scope for what you want to do then go for it but if you're not sure then he's probably not right (and it's a lot of money to get something wrong!) To be honest with the climate as it is you could probably haggle a bit. He's got a pretty face though and is nicely put together looks like he may even have a bit more growing in him yet too :)

Agree with Faracat.

Conformation doesn't look great and I would wonder why he looks so poor at this time of year? Temperament is more important than good confo. for a leisure horse but I certainly wouldn't pay 3k for him, even if he's a saint.

I honestly don't know why you post the ads on here - the horse may be snapped up by someone who sees you have posted it ??? Ah well.

RE the bridle - I did wonder whether they had just bunged another horse's bridle on him and tried to turn the gag into a snaffle.

That photo does make him look very straight through the hocks and he is standing with both pairs of legs under himself. Not a problem if it's just a bad photo/awkward moment.

Far too much money in today's climate, He doesn't look anything special in the photo's (could be the photo's) I wouldn't give more than £1000 for him ( and that's if I had had a few to drink :p )

I wouldn't have a problem with paying 3k (or even significantly more) for a green horse. I would have a problem with payi g 3k for something so weak and with poor conformation.
