Hi, have plucked up courage to take my two year old to a local show to do an in hand class. What do we wear? He has two black legs and two white legs so I thought black trousers with tweed jacket, tie etc for me but what about him. Does he need a special bridle, bit etc.

Sorry if I sound a bit dumb but not had much experience in this and any advice would be great.

I do quite a bit of in hand showing with my now three year old. I wear a blue Beagler hat, any hat will do but you must wear one (doesn't have to be a safety hat), blue tweed jacket, BROWN gloves with brown showing cane, light blue shirt with a dark red tie, dark blue cord trousers and brown short boots. My horse is chestnut and so has a brown in hand bridle, brown leather coupling and lead rein. Two year olds should def be bitted, I just use a weymouth snaffle as my mare has a dinky little head. Many others use the same or possibly a straight bar rubber snaffle. Just go with whatever your horse feels happy in. Hope that helps a bit!!

What breed/type is your horse and what classes where you thinking of taking him in?

I'm taking my boyo to his first show on Sunday, doing an inhand hunter class...don't think we'll do anything but its local show and good for practice, however I'm still going to try and look our best, so its more a case of looking smart and enjoying the day..hopefully

never plaited him up before neither...so Im all giddy!

He is a Haflinger x. Don't know what dad is as my mare was pregnant when I bought her (what a surprise). His colouring is welsh but he is definately built like his mum.

Someone told me that boys wear chains and girls wear leather couplings. Is this right?
