What do ya think obout this chap??

IMO i think he is exactly what you are not looking for. He's too young and wanting to go places and do things not plod about your farm. Maybe you should be looking at something that has been there and done that and looking for a quieter life.
Good luck in your search.

From the pics he doesn't look as if he'd plod around the farm - more like rocket around the place

It sounds like he could do with a lot more schooling so if you don't mind bringing him up to scratch then he could be worth it. Ad doesn't say much and pics are awful so probably best to ring to find out more and possibly visit him. I may get shot down here and I don't mean this in a nasty way at all but I wouldn't put any more than 12st on him...

Fells are lovely though - I think XSuperStarX has one on here and may be able to give you more info on them.

Thanks for that but I have two ponies who i have had since yearlings who are now veterans. a native and an anglo x - i can find my way around horses that are 'spirited' so I am not a muppet who want something that is (to coin a stupid phrase) dope on a rope. I like a wee bit of pizaz!! I think I could handle something strong, I was just asking what all the HHO gang thot xxxx

If you're only looking for something to plod about on, it seems a little unfair to buy a 5 year old who may be able to do a hell of a lot more.....

Why don't you get something a bit older who's looking for a quieter life? (not because I think you can't bring on a younger one, but because it seems more fair to the horse)

Hope you find something soon!

Sorry i thought you were looking for our opinions on the horse in the ad for you to plod about the farm on, i didn't mean to offend or imply you were a muppet, i just gave you my opinion.

I am sorry I am going to disagree with you here, the horse will not consider it to be neither fair or unfair on what job it does in life. I do not think people shouldn't have to buy horses which suit them because they do not want to compete them and the horse isn't in it's later stages of life to do nothing other than plod around.
If the horse is correctly cared for, fed and watered I am sure he won't be mind not being out competing.

I think he looks nice and prob good fun.

Please note horses, particularly youngsters do not know what else he could be doing other than hacking! There are plenty of horses that could do more with other riders etc but as long as we enjoy eachothers company that is fine.

However, I do think if you have a youngster that you teach it to be well behaved in what you decide to do with it so that if you are unable to keep it or something happens to you it stands a good chance of going to another lovely home, does that make sense?

I am a muppet as |I wanted a dope on a rope (althought to be fair he really isn't that).Nice to know though that if you are looking for something safe and sensible you are a muppet!

It say's competion prospect. i'm sure he would be great for someone to compete on. Maybe there is another horse out there that would be perfect just for plodding about. Your choice though and he is lovely. Just seems to be the opposite of what you want

Oh, dear, I am a classic muppet, the quieter the better. I have a fab ID x who is brilliant at his job, my hack.

I think the other posters were telling you what they thought , although it sounds as if you have already made up your mind and if this one fits your criteria then why not.

Good luck.

if you are wanting something to hack about on the farm on then i wouldn't think he would be suitable as looks like he may need a lot of work to stay sane.
However you said later you want something to bring on in that case he could be perfect depends on which one you are wanting to do

I am looking for a happy hack to plod about the farm. I was 5'3/5'4 and 12stone so I think this lad will suit me height and weight wise.

I think he looks quite strong from the photos?!?

I personally like fells - I think he'll take 12 stone easy. He looks a spirited chap and all the fells I've ridden have tended to be like mini tanks! He's not exactly being sold as a plod - more a pony club, hunting / jumping type. From your initial post I'd say he doean't really look like a plod round the farm type - more like a power walk round the farm then zoom up a hill!

If you want to do lots of active hacking and fun rides etc. he looks fun.

And I don't think anyone was sugesting you were a muppet or novice rider by saying he looks like he might be quite lively - we can only go on what you write on your post and you haven't given a description of your experience level or that you're happy with a whizzy, strong pony. IMO when someone asks for a plod they're looking for a nice easy hack, not too strong, whizzy etc which I think is how people read it.

IMO he looks like a cracking pony if that's the type you want - only other thing is if you were ever thinking of moving into showing with him 14.1hh is technically over-height for a fell.

Good luck

I don't see where "competition prospect" and "fun fast pony" = happy hack and plod?

If I was selling a whizzy type, I would certainly not sell it to someone wanting a plod around the farm, only because I would know then in 2 weeks time I would have a lawsuit on my hands for selling an apparently unsuitable horse!
