My lorry is a bit poorly :( and i need to think about changing my current car in anyway so may go back to towing which is a shame but needs must. So what do you all use please, i was looking at the short wheel base shogun. I like the look of the jeeps but they are really expensive to run and on parts. All input gratefully read. Thank you.

Daihatsu Fourtrak. Fewer about now as no longer made. Had mine many years and done countless miles with it towing safely and efficiently. Not too bad at all on fuel.

Nissan Navara but previously a very trusty Fourtrak, it was fab and lasted for years and years with no work needing to be done! It retired this year at 25 years old  Still going strong round the farm though :)

Izusu denver crewcab or nissan x trail both do the job well 506 and 16.3 and sometimes 14.2 as well

Landrover Discovery...they are rather expensive if they break down but they tend not to break down...well at least mine doesn't anyway...best towing vehicle I have ever had :)

Isuzu Trooper, sadly just sold her. What an amazing car she was! Still is for someone. Cried buckets when she went!

i've had a few as my other half like to buy and then gets fed up and sells for a new toy!
we had a shogun long wheel base and it was lpg so really cheap for a 3.0 litre petrol!
i loved towing with it as it was so ecomonical and made nothing of an ifor 510 with two horses on board! then we had a range rover 2.5td, automatic, complete gas guzzler and it overheated with trailer on back on hot days and if you made it go above 30mph up a hill with trailer, was great when trailer not hitched up which meant OH loved it and i was desparte to get rid as i was sick of it taking 3 times as long as everyone else to get places! Then we got an izusu trooper, great towing machine and 3.1td manual and suprisingly good on fuel when towing! however there is a common fault with the 1999 model and you've guessed it ours had it and it is due to faulty injector seal so oil gets into the fuel and recks the engine so car went to car heaven :( real shame as i really liked it as it was mega reliable til that happened and there was no warning apparently when they were first made izusu did do a recal but lots of people didnt take them up on it so buyer beware! our current towing machine is a jeep grand cherokee and so far so good. though i would prefer a manual as is really makes a difference to fuel economy!
phew what a lot of rubbish i can talk about cars! lol
good luck on your search!
