What do you clean your tack with?

I use Horsemans one step for everything - I use it daily and my bridles are never ever greasy and look/feel lovely!!!

I like the Carr & Day sprays, there's one for cleaning one for conditioning. Easy for children to use (when persuaded). The conditioning brings up pony's havana coloured bridle a lovely rich deep brown, and our instructor always comments when we've used the no 2 spray.

Not tried anything else but bought it because I thought it'd be easier and bought that brand because I have happy memories from helping at the riding school of sitting on bales of hay supposedly cleaning tack (with the Carr & Day metal tins of saddle soap), and being in stitches of laughter.

I use Stubben and although the leather looks enriched immediately after cleaning, one wear and it's dull again.

Once I've finished the tub I'll be trying something different.

We use the Stubben stuff. Smells horrible but it's brilliant stuff.

Carr Day and Martin sprays, the cleaner and then the leather conditioner, I've tried all sorts but these come up trumps on all quality of leather.

never used anythnig since.

Prior to that I did like the stubbon leather conditioner that came in a tube, but above is so much easier, great to take to shows too to spruce up the shine on your bridles before a class too.

Hydrophane leather dressing for suppling the leather and replenishing it when it dries out or gets wet and the Carr Day and Martin Brecknell Turner (I think that's what it's called anyway

) Saddle Soap otherwise.

damp sponge to wipe grease and sweat off then saddle soap/milk mix made with one bar of glycerine soap melted down and mixed with half a pint of full fat milk, left to set and kept in the fridge. Leather has lovely sheen to it and beautifully supple.

Second MrsT on the glycerine/millk bar - alternatively we used to use Coachaline (sp?) which was great but if you didn't polish it properly you used to get an orange bum if you used it on your saddle seat

!
Nowadays one of the joys of harness racing is that the harness is plastic so we just have to wipe it over with baby oil and make sure we remove all the sweat marks

When my horse was on full liv my tack used to come back in such nice, supple condition and i asked what she used and she said milk and saddle soap but i never knew the quantities! So thanks for the recipe! it does produce fantastic resuts!
However I have been using stubben stuff which is quite good

we never kept it in the fridge and it was fine, a big tub used to last us about 2mnths.

I just use good old fashioned glycerine soap now, with the stuff in a yellow tub and brown tub used occasionally

Effax, Hamanol or Jefferies. Ko-cha-line is not for cleaning tack, but for storing tack.

hot water mostly, and then at the moment I am using NAF leather cleaner - which keeps all my tack nice and conditioned.

I used to use the carr day and martin sprays - not sure why I switched to be honest - probably they didn't have some in my tack shop one day!

I always keep ko cha line and neatsfoot oil round and about the place so its there if I need it (I do sometimes uncover some old tack in the back of my tack room that hasn't seen the light of day for several months / years!!!

)

CDM cleaner spray (or a damp scouring pad used VERY carefully) to clean, and NAF soft soap to shine. It smells lovely and leaves tack shiny, soft and supple. Much easier to use than solid soap too (although possibly a little too easy to use too much - it's an art form!!)
I also like the Effax products.
