Sis has bought a 7.5 tonne lorry, with a bit of day living, including a cooker  a sink and a few cupboards. What do people think is essential to take with us on outings with the two girls, except them, their tack, a kettle etc :D

Bottle opener just incase your bottle isn't a screw cap (only one of you is driving ;))

On a serious not although its not kitchen related and speaking from experience, spare reins and spare headollar and leadrope.

Shoe removal tools. I found this out at a BS show when my horse managed to half pull a shoe off as he took off over a fence, the shoe twisted and when he landed he landed with a nail through his sole. He was unable to put his food down without pushing the nail deeper, and no farrier was onsite. Luckily after a frantic tannoy announcement tools to remove the shoe were found, but now I would never travel without them.

Fry pan and bacon :D

Those are all brilliant ideas, sis had already said that we must cook bacon :D and I have bought some plastic wine glasses :D

Alcohol

Baby wipes for cleaning horses, humans, surfaces etc

Alcohol

Baler twine, WD40, Duct tape (universal tools for fixing anything and everything)

Alcohol

A pen, safety pins, number elastic, plastic wallet for number in case of rain.

Latte sachets for when you have forgotten to buy milk.

That must have been a nasty situation, I hadn't thought of that, so I shall learn from your experience and put some in the waggon. Thank you.

That sounds like a good selection, the alcohol and the plastic wallet are particularly useful :)

Thank you all, these are all really useful, pessimistic is fine with me, better to be prepared for the worst, while hoping for the best. :)
We have already added Hi-Viz for us and horses to the list, just in case.

Breakdown details..oh and if tis a new lorry, get the weight checked. Friends bought a new lorry only to find that so much stuff was in the living, their 3 horse lorry could only take 2!

The horse is indeed a good start.

I always like to see the OH stored somewhere since he is a mechanic.

Headlight bulbs are useful if you are able to change them yourself and other bulbs just in case. Sensible jack/equipment for changing a tyre (even if realistically not doing that yourself, useful to have). Having just re read an earlier post word I was looking for was wheel brace.

Gin.

Lots of good ideas here already, but I also have spare bulbs for lights and indicators, insulating tape, spare can of diesel and long funnel (there are parts of the Emerald Isle where you can get plenty of peat briquettes but no petrol station for miles :D) SatNav, spare hydraulic oil for the ramp, tool box and heavy duty tow rope.

These are all brilliant, thanks a lot guys :). We are very fortunate that it is a new conversion, with only a little bit of stuff in the living, with a payload of about 3 tonnes, so even with sisters enormous horse we should be fine :D I can do basic mechanics myself, so lights ok, hopefully will never be too far away from a filling station, but jump leads, jack etc and tow rope will be on the list!

I have 3/4 old carpet tiles too they r useful for keeping the lorry cleaner [wipe yr feet] and even more for grip under wheels if a bit slippy ...have saved me a few times!

In our lorry... a mechanic

If I'm doing a long trip down the country I always ask my lovely mechanic what he's up to that day and will he please make sure he has his mobile with him :D He sorted me out when I had a blowout 100 miles away, arranged for me to be rescued, and PAID for it to be done, even though I had cheque book and card with me :D

Actually, nobody has mentioned taking some form of payment with you, have they? I have a spare £20 (and €20) hidden in the lorry and always take a card if I'm going out for the day, even if I don't think I'll need it.

Along with other things mentioned:-
Assorted hot & cold drinks, Chocolate & biscuits ( show cafes can be very expensive)
Fleeces & waterproofs for you & the horses
Spare leadropes & head collars
Container of oil, container of water & funnel for lorry
Container of water for you & horses
Sponge & bucket for washing off sweaty or dirty horse
Spare bulbs & fuses (lorry electrics are 24v & bulbs are not always readily available)
Keep telephone numbers & membership details in lorry for recovery service.

Oh & get an isolation switch fitted to the lorry electrics, if it hasn't already got one, that way you should never come to the lorry & find it has a flat battery.

my porta loo (cant stand show toilets)
I keep everything in my lorry

saddle rack
tack
show stuff
fire extinguisher
migraine tablets
c'ds
phone charger
washing up liquid

show headcollars

numnahs

first aid
rain sheets
sweatrugs
