What do you count as a 'big' horse

It's not the size that's the issue for me, its the build. For example I had a 15.2hh last year, but he was a Welsh Cob so very sturdy so I didn't feel big on him at all, yet on my 16hh TB type I almost feel a bit too big! Therefore, Im not bothered about size really but I do like them short coupled - they feel more like ponies which I like!

I have a 17.1 WB and a 17.2 IDxTB and I think anything smaller is too small!!! I am 5ft 8! When I went looking to by my new WB I didn't/wouldn't look at anything under 16.3/17h. I have a friend the same height who has 3 horses from 15.2 to 16.1h!! Depends on what you prefer!

im 5ft and have a 13.2hh new forest, a 14hh welsh x and a 16.3hh tb. Nice mix.lol!! Strangely I actually feel most comfortable on the tb, might look daft but he rides nicely-even when he is pratting around I feel ok!

Mine is 16.2hh and I think he's fairly avergae sized. I had a 15.2hh for a year but he felt too small for me (i'm 5'8). I ride ponies, and its not that I can't...but for my own horse I wouldn't ever have anything under 16.2hh again, preferably more towards the big 16.3-17hh mark.

I rode a HUGE draft cross a few times that was 18.3hh. That was a long way to reach to put the saddle on...and when he decided to tank (which was often) it could be a bit of a mission holding him back..couldn't tighten your reins too much because when he dropped his head he couldn't breathe right. :D
At my old yard too ( I never rode them though) there were two imported WB's, from Belgium or something that were both around 18.2hh or so and built like absolute tanks. Young and strong and powerful...the owner was only about 5'4.

So yup..to me..I think big is sorta 17.3hh or so and above. :)

im 5ft2 and ride a 16hh ISH, and when im on her, she feels quite small, however my boyfriend and all of my friends thinks she is MASSIVE! i remember when i first got her she seemed big as i had just gone from 13hh ponies to a full on horse, but she was underweight and lacking muscle so as ive gotten more used to her shes gotten larger... i have been known to get on an18hh warmblood X and a 17.2hh oldenberg which seemed A LOT bigger, especially when it came to thinking about when i was going to fall of :p

Lol this will make you laugh, i regard pretty much anything over 15.2 as huge!!!
Im 5ft 3, nearly 24 yrs old and literally havent grown since i was 12. but have always been more into my pocket rocket ponies!
I used to school ponies for several people when i was younger because i was tall, but light for a 12 year old so they gave me the naughty ones as i was big enough to handle them but not too heavy! I always loved hacking out the forward going 14-15hhs when i used to ride for other people. Whenever i get on anything over 15.2 i feel totally out of my comfort zone and it just doesnt seem to click.
My previous pony was an arab he was 14.1 but had a huge stride, we used to hack out with the race horses alot and he never had a problem keeping up.
The pony i bought a couple of weeks ago is an ISH x cob and is 14.2 (i know a huge jump from 14.1 :-D ) but he also strides out nicely and has decent sized paces, but the speed and pocket rocketness of a pony.
I think i would have heart failure if i turned up to ride somewhere and someone lead out an 18hander!!!
