Well. Picture the scene. Got a new boss – a big, high up important new boss and he is giving you a lift to the first meeting you and others are going to have with him. 10 minutes before the meeting is due to start, you’re about to arrive at the venue, all well and good so far as you have made small talk all the way there about your hobbies, interests etc. He knows you are interested in horses but isn’t horsey himself.

Cue loose horse cantering up the road towards you and towards a motorway and boss has to slam on breaks. Horse has no tack on and nobody is chasing after it. Boss turns to you to say “you know about horses, what should we do?” Do you;

a) Tell him to call the police/animal charity and tell them about it
b) You’re already on the phone to police/animal charity yourself
OR
c) Hear him but not answer as you are already out of the car and running/tottering in your smart suit and heels after the horse just as fast as you can?!?

Guess which one I did!! Nightmare – pony was so scared, I got covered in mud by running along the verge at one point, pony didn’t stop for ages, and when I did get close to it, it was too wild to let me catch it, and just scattered off the other way instead – around a blind bend! I don’t think I breathed, I could just imagine such a bad accident, but luckily by this point about 10 cars deep had stopped both directions and were shouting helpful comments like “Is it yours? Get it off the public highway” (can’t write what I muttered back to that driver!

)… So eventually pony decided to go down a dead end country lane and this very helpful van man said he’s block it off with the van until the police arrived – they promptly did 10 minutes later and I came down to earth with a thump - what was my boss who I had left behind in the car going to think of me?? Luckily he understood and saw the funny side of it, but it was interesting having to explain to everyone else why we were late!

So thank you very much to all the drivers near Manchester airport who saw a loose chestnut section C and stopped completely until it was safely caught, especially the lady who followed my very random hand signals and blocked off the whole road that said pony was heading down, and to the police for getting there so quickly, complete with a police horsebox! Special thanks to the windscreen van man who eventually blocked pony into a safe lane until police came, you were brilliant! Thank god nobody got hurt, it could have gone so badly. And I definitely think new boss won’t forget me in a hurry!

Yeah well done you! I think the boss should be impressed by your display of quick thinking, initiative and leadership skills and as woolly said all in heels too!

Well......if you're going make an impression.......that's the way to do it!!

I almost wish that sort of thing would happen to me so I could get more recognition from my boss! (obviously I wouldn't want any poor horsey to get hurt) I think most horsey people would have been leaping out of their cars like you did because we just can't help ourselves when it comes to four legged beasts but I am so impressed you did it in your heels and I'm guessing you had a suit on too if you were going to see customers! Your boss is definately going to remember you for a long time - I bet that little tale is going to be one of his favourite stories at dinner parties for the next few months!

Ha ha ha apparently it was when I realised that I didn't have a headcollar or rope and stripped off my jacket (thinking I could maybe loop the arms round its neck or something) that boss knew I meant business I can only imagine what I must have looked like lol!!!

As for calling me a star, thank you but it was just instinctive reaction any of us would have done, trust me my brain did not have anything to do with my decision to go after the pony!

it did occasionally butt in with "yes but what are you going to do with it when you catch it," but thats brains for you, you just have to ignore them sometimes!!

Well done, pity that the obligatory arsholes had to be there to shout stupid unhelpful comments, thank goodness there were other people there with the sense to help, good stuff.

Well done exactly what I would of done yet I would of managed to go tits up in the mud!!!

We had a horse escape on to the bypass once (Bypass was just under the yard) A new horse had bullied her through the wall onto the road.
The police must of been called & when he got hold of her (she is very friendly & sane!) he led her back to his car to radio for help! But realised when he got to his car that a short pulled mane does nt stretch that far! So he let go of het to radio for help & she trotted off! Luckily back to our farm!!
