What do you do when you CAN'T get stable stains out (apart from cry!!) :p

Denture Tablets! I had a Coloured and a Palomino and used Sterident tablets in warm water to lift the stains out. Brilliant stuff!
With my Fell's heavy dirty tail (although it is black) I use non-bio washing powder as the 1st wash to get the majority of the muck out so the shampoo can then do its job.
With hocks I found that 3 or 4 denture tablets fizzed in as little water as possible and then rubbed into the stain and then rubbed and rinsed out worked really well.

Daz washing powder works a treat on white tails and socks so would imagine it would work on hocks too! But do spot test first.

This. Daz is the only thing that would work on the coloured I used to ride.

And are you using hot hot water?

Cold water wont lift the stains effectively xx

Carr Day Martin do a money back guarantee with their Stain Master spray. They claim it is unbeatable!

technically, "unbeatable" just means it's no better than anything else! The money back guarantee is encouraging though! Their website says it contains cleaning agents and optical brighteners - much like Daz really! (or most other washing powders or Vanish)

Wouldn't worry about using Vanish etc on tails (below the dock) but would definitely do a patch test where there's skin - and wait for 24hrs after rinsing to see if there is any reaction.

But she is so gorgeous, who cares if she has some tasteful cream bits

Carr and Day and Martin Canter mane and tail conditioner, spray on the stain, scrub hard with a body brush, repeat, then leave conditioner on it to protect against further stains. Works for me

Hot water is a definite must. You'll never get a grey horse properly clean with cold water. I use a mixture of Head & Shoulders and whatever blue shampoo I have. I put the shampoo in the warm water and use additional neat on any tough bits. You can chuck a slug of stain remover like the C&D&M one or cowboy magic in too. Then you scrub like you're scrubbing the floor. Use a brush and circular motions it's way more effective than a sponge or just your hands. I'm a bit ocd about my piebald being properly clean for showing! I do really rate the cowboy magic green spot remover it's great stuff.

When Chico used to be on shavings he had the worst stable stains imaginable (thankfully pellet beds dont give stains) but what I found best was chalk.

I would wash the legs and then when still wet i would massage the chalk in, then leave it all to dry. Once dry just brush it all out. Wont make the black parts white as you will be removing it all, the chalk really lifts the stains and muck out with it.

Swarfega - used by mechanics etc. who work with oily, greasy equipment - as a hand cleaner, so is highly unlikely to provoke any allergic reaction and also contains conditioner. Magic!
