My summer plans have fallen apart, Andy has gone out on loan I'm meant to be in Italy but it fell through so I came back to the UK on Weds and the person loaning Andy is having such a good time I'd rather he had a summer with her.

So now I'm jobless and horseless.

So what do normal non-horsey people do? I'm still used to getting up at the crack of dawn to go and ride and have no idea what I'm meant to do between the hours of 3 and 7 :p

Lol I am struggling with the same thing! J is with his sharer 3/4 days a week and roo is off. So I'm helping a friend back her 4 year old and catching chance rides wherever I can! Plus the dog is getting a lot of walks!

You live in prime "horseland", go get a job in a competition or racing yard

I've applied to so many places, most of them don't even have the decency to come back and say 'sorry but no!' So frustrating, even applying to lots of non-horsey jobs but I think all the uni students have got them all!

Be clean! Smell nice! Have nice nails!

Now that's a thought :D

I have no money :p student + no job is never good! :p Pretty sure if I don't get a job soon my parents will wish I was homeless!! :L

Like me and BORED senseless actually HATE it!

Im sorry your plans have fallen through :( least you know Andy is being well looked after in the mean time whilst you sort yourself out again.

I went round lots of yards on the hunt for a job, kept going back weekly just to show I am keen and dedicated I eventually got a job at a great SJ yard.

Keep badgering them... good luck

I'm semi-horseless...mine has leg issues so he can only be exercised gently in walk for short periods....on the plus side the garden is looking lovely and all the hedges have been pruned to within an inch of their life....

Come over here and ride mine :p

Failing that your small enough so put the word out that if any one wants their kids pony to have a few reminder sessions/get fitter before the summer holidays your avalible.

^agreed, ponies are the way forward.

Other than that, get hooked on all manner of rubbish tv and watch endlessly. During non-working periods, I have managed to get hooked on such classics as "Monarch of the Glen", "Countdown", "Time Team", "Arthur" (yes I do mean the kids cartoon series), "Doctors" and all manner of similar rubbish.

I'm currently horseless and jobless too :( I find myself going 'oh no, need to turn the tv on or i'll miss 'may the best house win' ' or something similar. But i'm gonna make blingy browbands once my ebay orders come. Thats another thing im addicted to again, ebay. I get very bored but when a tiny part of my brain suggests doing some cleaning or gardening, the bigger part ignores it and keeps moaning that its bored  i've read all the books that i own. I have even read the whole series of harry potter again, in 2 languages, this is how bored i truly am :o

Hmm have a break from horses? Or get some horsey qualifications? Job placement on a specific yard like racing...

Shame Italy fell through - could you go touring instead elsewhere?

JFTD, I am almost certain now you are like my science-bod (more intelligent) twin! Currently hooked on countdown, have had an 'Arthur' and a 'Doctors' phase (plus many more...including, *cringe* the saddle club on H&C!!)

Kokopelli, you're welcome to ride mine but I fear he's probably too big and boring for you and maybe a little far away. Depending how far you'd travel, Marmalade76 might still be keeping an eye out for a rider for her ponies?!

What do you mean your plans fell through, did you not enjoy it out there or something else?
Sorry if I'm being nosey.. just curious.

I am applying on average for 2 jobs a day at the mo :( its depressing, just finished my degree with a 2:1 with now means I am over-quailified for a lot of stuff  or under-quailified :( Did work with horses for 2 weeks but the £2.50 a hours for 55+ hours a week with no holidays was a bit of p*ss take and wasn't pleseant.
Luckily I have my horse to play with, and pony in for breaking and I am working in two pubs at night and weekends to pay for stuff.

Pffft I've had almost 8 months of non riding and let me tell you, it gets no easier. I think about riding every day! I browse horses for sale, though I'm not in the market, pick up schedules of shows I cannot attend, look at photos and hate on people :D I am hoping in a few glorious months I'll be able to return to it, but for now, I feel your pain!!

Oh Lord, I've just agreed with you on the hi vis thread too

My most shameful phase has been watching the 1979 series of the famous five on youtube. I could even be tempted to check out the saddle club :o

I know, I just saw that!! Ha!

The Saddle Club will annoy you to high kingdom come but you'll still watch it again and again!!

It's amazing what you can get on board with, isn't it. I regularly re-watch episodes of Casualty. Sometimes several times. I need a life :o

Agree ponies are the way forward, when mine was injured had dozens of them offered to me & although I'm light I am too tall. Doesn't stop me though.

Ponies sounds like an awesome idea and have had loads of messages on fb asking me to ride some but I have no transport atm. (I can't afford insurance on car whilst jobless.) I can ride ponies occasionally but need to rely on lifts from parents which their not to keen on. :p

Jesstickle feel free to post your horses! I'm even missing mucking out, think there's something wrong with me.

I also cleaned out the garage and have discovered I have more stuff than most tack shops so tempted to sell some stuff and make enough money for car insurance (also have a few saddles to sell) but not keen on that idea as I always sell things then find a few months later I really need it. :p

Wow that really is Andy's female double, she is stunning! :D

Could you use the time to build up new, transferable skills to help you after uni. Maybe volunteer for a riding club/competition centre and learn some event management skills. RDA and learn teaching and communication.
