So I've been busily picking up after my doggie & have now got a full bucket of poo...and I don't know what to do with it...

Don't want to put it on the muckheap as dog poo is revolting & I don't want to see it or smell it.

Not sure I should put it in the bin either cos it doesn't seem like a very nice thing to do.

So what should I do with it??

Do those dog loo things work, & if so, could they keep up with a large dog?

Update on Kane for anyone who's interested. He has stopped growling at o/h & harrassing the cockatiel. He has learnt to sit, stay (for around 30 seconds & with me out of sight & with a toy / food in front of him), his recall is a lot more consistent & only fails if something really exciting is going on (e.g. has found stable cat's food). We are working on down, sit to the side & stand. Down-stay will be next, & then I think we'll be onto heel, which will be something else completely new. We've found an obedience academy & will start there the Sunday after next. It covers agility, obedience & you can even move onto national guard dog training certificates. I think we'll be a while getting to grips with the basics.

He has met clipping lady's lab, farrier's staffie & dr trainer's rat sized terrier & hasn't shown any aggression at all with any of them. He hasn't barked or growled at any visitors, although if there's a noise in the night, he will get up & investigate.

So there we go! So far, so good, & I think I've been very lucky to end up with a good 'un.

The poo toilets are terrible and not worth the money!! I would be amazed if they actually worked with a small dog as it isn't sufficient for our labrador and she also poos when she is out (yes we pick it up!!). When you find something that works let me know as I'd be interested!!

When it's in smaller amounts, just put it in the loo and flush.

With a bucket, tip down your manhole cover if you have your own, but make sure you keep the bathroom taps running and keep flushing the loo.

We have a scrubby field with nothing grazing it, sometimes it goes out there....

Ha ha, used to be a highlight of my childhood, once a week before school.

I had to explain to my teacher when I wrote about my morning routine what 'helping mum do the doggy buckets' meant.

My mother was mortified.....

I pick mine up in nappy sacks (cheap and fragrant!) and put them in the dustbin. I do use the toilet if they are still being trained and indoors, but it would be impossible to do with my two biggies. Well, now the puppy has run off with my shoe (wonders if she will fit down toilet)

Well I have 3 big 'uns so lob all mine under a big conifer hedge that runs round our property. Hidden away, doesn't smell and mulches down naturally. Hasten to add we have a large garden so it's not concentrated in one small area!!

Chuck it over the garden hedge then deny all knowledge.

We have sunk a bucket with lid into the ground an fill it up with AquaKem (which you use for portable toilets) it will then brake down the poo to a sludge.we even chuck a dead rat in there. There is a bacteria in dead animals that will brake down waste.

When you feed Raw there is not so much and it doesn't stink and it is hard easy to pick up and rots really quickly, or I chuck it in the bin in biodegradable dog poo bags.

I pick it up in a bag as its usually hard and whitish, and chuck in wheelie bin. Got told off once as it wasnt wrapped but they havent noticed since. . .
When O H does it, it gets lobbed over the hedge into the field.

Ive got a better idea, apparently those Green cone food digester things you can get cheap from the council (£10 from ours) can cope with any meat cooked or raw or any other food waste and I believe they can cope with dog poop too.

Havent tried it yet but I reckon thats the way to go, the digester bugs eat the yummy poo and produce compost. I would still not put the compost on edible crops but def for other stuff.

What I would not do like some of our local dogwalkers at old house would be to bother to tie it up in a bag and then HANG IT ON A TREE AT EYE LEVEL ON THE PATH

Eurgh. I was at the beach today and ended up lifting two other people's poops - I know I shouldn't but I didn't want anybody thinking it was us!

I've done that! There's something even more yuck about picking up a strange dogs poo isn't there! Makes me mad as hell, specially on a lovely beach

Re the poo dilemma, you could make a kind of DIY composter by digging a large hole, emptying your bucket of poo in and covering each bucket load with a layer of sawdust. It would then rot into the soil, wouldn't smell and wouldn't clog the drains or fill the bins. I might patent the idea

I collect mine with nappy sacks and put them in the bin as someone else said or double carrier bag them when I do a poo run in the garden.

Mine (or should I say the dogs

) goes on the muck heap. There is always considerably more horse muck to cover it so it does not get smelly or offensive and rots down just as quickly. A local contractor removes my muck heap.

If I have to pick up on walks I use scented nappy sacks and then gets double bagged and goes in the dustbin.

We have a big garden and 5 dogs so it gets scooped up every day (we use a horsey poop scoop - wonderful with the long handles) and toss it under the hedges to rot down.
