What do you do with all the rosettes & ribbons you've won?

Today I have ironed around 500 used ribbons (we don't often get rosettes here in NZ) Our Pony Club is running a Jelly Bean Gymkhana at the weekend with recycled ribbons for prizes as well as Jelly Beans. The ribbons have been donated by members of the committee - all are used and some are really special ribbons comemorating special events. One parent arrived this morning with some more and said we rarely collect ours these days or give them back at the end of the day.

I treasure everyone I've ever won - I have some on the wall and most in a box in the hall. Each one has the name of the horse/pony I won it on and when and what for. To me each ribbon is the result of hard work and dedication.

What do you do with yours?
 
Keep them! My OH thought I was crazy when I said I wanted to include them in the shipment to HK ;) Though they're now in a box rather than hung up anywhere.

My OH's children wanted one each and I held off giving them away for about 6 months - I worked hard for those and each one means something special!! Luckily they liked the yellow and green ones not the red ones :D
 
Keep them all!! All are also dated with class & pony name too. The really nice ones & ones that are from big shows or that mean a lot are hung up around the house but the rest are in boxes in the loft & there are thousands!!!! Every now & the daughter likes to get them out for a look. I can't bare to throw any away :)
 
After I lost my old fella in June mum started sewing his onto a blanket.
Ridge's latest are in the sitting room, his older ones are hanging in my bedroom. Might start his blanket over the christmas holidays.
I have a box full from the lease ponies.
I hold onto them all!!
 
Because my house is wooden they are used to prevent me catching my hands on some rough parts and to hold various bits of my home together!

The special ones get kept and are in pride of place, but others I have just thrown away - didn't think anyone would want them :o
 
I keep all of mine, though I dont have hundreds. Too much hard work goes into them!

ESP when I tend to buy horses that need fixing and dont have any transport.

(so going to buy a trailer in the spring even if I sell my own kidney!)

Mine are normally hooked on pictures of horses that I've won them on.

I only have 1. Most of the time I've won when riding for owners so they keep them. Ones I have won generally get traded in for hot chocolate at venue.
The only one I have kept is form my first placing at BE novice. I managed to hide it before the owner got her hands on it. :D
 
I have sacks of rosettes from gymnkhanas & shows in the 70's, Many have names, & classes etc. on them. I am more ruthless these days though, anything boring gets binned. I did get excited about a clear round rosette won on my youngster recently, but even that has vanished somewhere.

I do keep special rosettes, though those are thin on the ground these days.
 
They go on a string in the house until the end of the year, when they are transferred to the lorry and I start again the next year. All my ones from when I was a kid are in a box - can't throw them away!
 
I keep the good ones and special ones - the rest disappear into the bin. We are currently designing a trellis design so they can go in the downstairs loo as been having this discussion about rosettes.
 
Used to keep them in the lorry until the end of the season - lorry is now sold, so the few my youngster has won this year are hung around the beams on the landing.
Our mare won such a lot we had to get rid of most except the 1st and 2nd, champs etc (if that sounds arrogant, would just add that we get to compete in a lot of classes at western shows!)
We bought a piece of plastic mesh intended for protecting strawberries and nailed it onto a wooden frame, the rosettes hook onto the mesh, and it makes a lovely display in the utility room, and still gives me a lift when I get a bit down about my mare not getting in foal this year!
If the boy is as successful, we'll make a display frame for him, too :D
 
On the whole I give them back to the venue so they can reuse them. I do keep some, ones that are 'special' to me, and not necessarily red ones!

Rosettes are expensive, and most of the folk running shows around here are doing it off their own backs, so saving them a bit of money by letting them re-use them help them a bit.
 
There is a whole business in North America turning rosettes and ribbons into quilts, pillows etc. or framing/shadow boxing them with photos, a horse shoe etc. They can be a bit over the top but one person I worked for had a huge one done for her daughter at the end of a very successful season, with a big photo and some of her most extravagent rosettes surrounding it, which was lovely.

Romax - love the wall hanging at the back of the room - and soooo many rosettes!

Recycled ribbon days are a big thing here - helps our Pony Club raise funds for instructors and team events. At a $1.50 each ribbon it keeps the costs down and the kids can have a good day for a total $25 entry fee.

Sometimes you see kids ponies in rugs made from the ribbons, very pretty.
