What do you all do with your tails?! I took my appy out with flowing tail, and it was horrific after, covered in mud/ knotted etc, being an appy she lacks mane/tail anyway, so don't want to have to deal with this again, so what do you do with your tails?!

Plait it normally from the top as if you were showing (or pull it, like mine is!), then put a full length, very tight, plait in all the way to the bottom. Then tape up out of the way :)

Much better as it doesn't drag in the mud, doesn't annoy the horse and looks so smart.

I would loose plait the lower section of the tail (ie below where the dock ends) fold it to dock length and tape up whenever you know it is likely to get muddy... if you plait the whole thing you may end up weakening and breaking the top section, which generally needs pulling quite tight to stay plaited :D

I used to do a polo tail on my coloured mare but her tail is so thick it never stayed in all day, so now I put pig oil through the bottom (I put it on her legs anyway). It stops the mud sticking too much. Now I'm usually the cleanest horse at the end of the day!

same here - looks really smart that way and no muddy tail at end of day.

i french plait mine down to the end of the dock and then put it into a normal plait, tie at the bottom with an elastic band.
then i fold the end bit over and sew that over, and then fold it up either to the top of his tail or half way up it, and then i sew it in... looks very smart :D
just experiment really... also stitching looks neater than tape :)
