Just wondering now that I am the proud new owner of a hairy cob thing what everyone does? She wont be hairy for much longer if i can get my hands on some clippers northumberland area anyone? will pay!

At the moment we are getting used to each other second ride today when I finish work roll on 5pm!! and hackind and schooling I have no idea if she jumps yet so will be sure to find out soon.

Thankyou

Oh and if anyone has piccies that would be fab!!

Before we lost her, my girl did everything.
We did dressage- didnt start out great as she was very unbalanced and unschooled, but towards the she was really starting to improve, though always hampered slightly by her long back.
I took her to all PC activites, including camp, so she did mounted games, XC, SJ and general flatwork.
She wasnt a proper cob- too light, a mix of light and cob, so wouldnt have done well showing, but had she been the right type, would have turned her hoof to it I'm sure.
Her absoloute favourite was jumping- she never once refused or ran out, and had a big pop in her.
Any pics of your new one?

In a word 'enjoy' as mine is friendly, versatile and laid back, and slowly but surely we are building up a good friendship.

How very wonderful to have a new hairy person in your life .... I hope you have many happy years of fun.

Well I took my 5yo hairy cob for his first XC schooling session yesterday - no pics of that I'm afraid - but here he is

and I can confirm that cobs certainly can jump! he took a 18" log like it was about 3'
we need a pic of yours now!

My old cob did everything and anything, dressage, xc, sj, le trec, mounted games, hunted.
He had a massive pop on him and was always hunting and xc the most, point and he was at it but also did a lovely dressage test. we showed him alot too but not my thing.

New cobby has been out of work for a heck of a long time so at momment shes been refittening up, jst started jumping her and shes got a heck of a jump so most likely will be new hunting horse :)

my very hairy cob (lots of feather, long mane and massive tail :D ) does everything, his favouriye thing is jumping although unfortunately due to his build is not the best at it but he enjoys it!!

My old cob before I sold him did everything!! Like you when I got him didnt know if he could do anything but soon found out he could :) Was the safest boy ever and I really do regret selling him. Some pics:
When I first got him (although I admit I gave him a good bath):

After a clip, pull, tidy, lots and lots of work to muscle up and loose the flab and IMO looking a lot better!:

My cob does lots of stuff - dressage, xc schooling, hunter trials, show jumping and show cross. He is very hairy and suffered with sweet itch before I got him so I clip him fully all year round and put on a fly sheet and mask and this seems to work. I find cobs (at least mine) very forward going and up for any sort of fun/adventure.

Mine is only 4, turns 5 soon, so not a lot.
But he's game for trying new stuff. We've just started jumping, will happily give it a go but has yet to grasp the concept of lifting his legs, he thinks its a game of who can flatten the jump the most :D
Brilliant to hack out, you'd not know he was so young, and schools quite well for a young horse who's still finding his balance.

I think you can do anything with them, they are such good all rounders.

Mine will become my daughters horse in a couple of years and he will do much more then as she likes the variety and is far more capable in the saddle than I am.

Good luck, enjoy your new horse, there's a whole load of cob lovers on here to share your experiences with and we like nothing more than showing our cobs off :D

I've also a Welsh cob but she's only 22 months old, my long term aim for us both is 3 day eventing :D

thankyou didnt realise cobs were so versitile I now apologise for being so ignorant!! I must admit ive always written off cobs until recently. I will will will get some piccies on when I work out how to do it!!

Hacked out this morning only a little way as hacking is pretty pants where I am and she was good VERY forward going ;) weeeeeeeeeee go little hairy cob

she also doesnt have a name yet so at the moment is mare of horse I quite like both! they might stay!!

PPB - I love George, he’s gorgeous! Cobs are so under-rated by many people – I’ve ridden lots, and have loved each one of them. I’m looking forward to owning one as a fun allrounder some day, as lots of you seem to have already!

Congratulations on your new cob!! They are the best!! I have a big bald one and we do everything pretty much. He is soooo much fun and aww just my baby! We hunt, xc, sj, dressage but thats not much fun we only do it if its an ODE or combined training, hacks, shows, side saddle. He is a tryer and loves life, a bit too much sometimes but he is my superstar in my eyes (apart from when the clippers come out!)
