you go on holiday?

Kennels, friends, family, live in animal person or anything else? (referring to holiday abroad so dogs not going)

We never go away for more than a couple of days but, when we do ,our dog stays with a friend of mine in the village who is also a dogsitter. On the rare occasions that she cannot have her, she goes to my mother. Never use kennels.

My friends house-sit and also dog-sit. They use to go to my parents before my Dad got a bit precious about his garden.

thanks for your replies. Anyone here (n dorset/wilts) area know or can help possibly dog sitting in the summer? Fingers crossed for my FIRST holiday in 10+ years - can also be called a honeymoon I suppose - just 6 and half years late! lol

I dog sit my friends spaniels when she has to go away which is quite frequent - work takes her abroad. She hates them going to kennels so pays me to care for them and so they become part of the family.

They love coming here as they get to run around in the garden all day - their home only has a tiny concrete yard. They also learn a few manners with me which makes their stay more pleasant for all. Like the floor is for dogs the furniture is for humans and the grey cat is in charge so don't mess with him!

I would have no issues with a good kennel but I have 9 dogs, so it would be rather expensive:p the last 2 hols they all went to my mams, this holiday my sister will be staying at my house.
I do home board other peoples dogs though, infact my licence just renewed today lol:D

So far they have come on holiday with us. But we are going dogless for a couple of days so they are going in a kennels for the first time and hopefully booking them in for a bath each mwhahahaha gets me out of bathing Dylan :)

I dont know how I would feel about leaving them right now. I house sat my friends 6 dogs, 5 horses and duck etc regualry which resulted me living there for three weeks at one point lol But I got paid for it.

If I went away away for more than a week I would gladly return the favour with my three :) Although there are several people I know who would fight for Buster lol.

Well we tend to holiday either in the UK or somewhere on the continent where we can take them with us. But . . . if we couldn't do that, we would hire a house/dog sitter. Both dogs are rescues and neither would do particularly well in kennels . . . so we feel it's kinder to have them stay at home with someone in the house taking care of them.

P

My holidays are all to agility/flyball comps, so the dogs come with me!

Last year when I competed at Crufts with Skye I stayed the night before at a hotel, so I could be at the NEC early, my parents looked after the other 4 dogs for me that night. A few times I went away for a weekend before I had Star (over 2 years ago), my parents looked after the 4 dogs. Before that the last time I went away for a week without the dogs a friend looked after them, that was 8 years ago and I had 3 dogs.

My mother in law sends her three to a dog sitter. She has them live like they would at home, if they sleep on the bed-they sleep on her bed etc.

They absolutley love it there and as the one is a fretter its the only place she finds him relaxed

I'm off to Horse of the Year (NZ) this year and dogs aren't allowed so for the first time I have a problem as to what to do with my dog.

I've several options I guess - have a friend stay, send him to kennels or see if his breeder will have him stay at her place. He's a really friendly dog but does tend to stick with me when we go places which is really nice. :D

nana and grandad live next door so they have the dogs but we have a puppy at the moment so we are not going away till shes older as we cant expect 85 year old grandparents to look after lab/rott puppy. but they are fine with the lab/doberman dog so will be fine when the pup is grown up:):)

My sister comes over to live in and dog sit (I have 4). She lives in the city and we are out in the countryside so it is also a sort of holiday for her. My OH and I tend to do separate holidays too (different interests) so there is no problem there.

I cant afford hols :o We are trying to do a budget hol with the dog this summer and then next easter we will be jetting off somewhere on honeymoon so I will be dumping B on Caylas doorstep :p

We're going on holiday in a couple of months (the first hol we have had for years) and pup is going with us.

We're away for a weekend soon though and she's going into kennels. I feel rather guilty leaving her there, but it's probably best that she gets used to them as a pup. You never know if she may need to be in them for some reason later.

Mine wanders about on the yard or sleeps in the office as normal. Someone shuts him in my house last thing and tops up food and water. Girls on the yard let him out in the morning when they get here.
