What do you do with your horse without thinking...

I let Henry leave the field tacked up by himself. He simply puts his head straight down onto the grass strip on the driveway. This is not always a good thing. They're in the 'other field' at the mo and without thinking I let him out as usual, whereupon he trotted straight across the (thankfully very quiet) lane and down the opposite farm driveway to say hello to the neighbours' horses. Little sod, lol! I often use both of them as a table for grooming brushes or whatever I have to put down briefly. I've been known to forget and them wander off in the field with some random object on their bottom!

Bum cuddles (getting difficult as he is just growing upwards!).

Also used to lead with a wheelbarrow to take down to field but after he decided yesterday he wanted to eat from it whilst walking down the muddy track, in the process nearly falling in said wheelbarrow and also nearly pushing me in it, i have invested in a hay bag so we will be walking with a hay bag.

If im lungeing and doing pole work I can change the poles around whilst he is stood there on the rope.

I often leave grooming brushes in a line along ameys back where I just put them there while grooming the rest of her :o

When I used to add bedding with her in there I used to lay the bag over her back.

I seem to have gotten into the habit of trying to whip her rug off without undoing the leg straps! Good job she's good natured! I must stop doing that though.

I often sit on floor to hoofoil her feet.

Think nothing of standing behind her and patting her bum.

If i have forgotten hooded coat i will lead to and from field, whilst holding an umbrella, she doesnt bat an eye.

Nothing taken for granted as I have had 2 years of baby horses! I know my old mare will let me wash her off without tieing her up or will stay put in her stable if I don't put her chain across... but I know I am doing it as it has been somewhat drilled into me to be aware around big babies and its AMAZING what you have to think about in order to stay safe...things like tightening up girths when on board or altering stirrups are a no no. about 6 months ago I went out on a hack with a friend on one of her horses and had forgotten what it was to ride a horse that actually knew what it was doing and didn't need constant attention!

Still coming out of the woods finally but still don't anything for granted with my 5 year old!

glad im not the only one, was started to feel very depressed about my stroppy face-pulling grumpy madam!

i do daft stuff like this all the time! i also jumped the skeleton and i jump with it straped to marleys neck!!

I leave the door open while he eats

Lead him into the stable a certain way

Tie my nets a certain way

Pick his feet out front to back

I always take my girth right off the saddle

I always (most of the time anyway) dismount leg over front

I never use my hand to bit him, I hold the bit close to him and he puts it in himself

Basically my routine on a daily basis is as follows all of which I do on auto pilot

Turn on the lights!!
Put my radio on and get my tools
Muck out (poo out and wet if needed) and re lay bed
Fill water and put back in stable
Hang net up of he needs more (he isn't greedy)
Sweep outside the stable and the yard and tidy the area outside
Water his feed, stir it and put it in his stable
Then I go and get him
Wash his feet, dry his feet, pick out his feet
Then I ride (if I am riding that night) and put him to bed :)
