What do you do with your old ripped/broken rugs?

I had a bit of a clear out today, and put two rugs by to throw out, but it got me wondering if they could be put to use by someone who could mend them, and maybe donate them to a sanctuary/horse rescue, I hate throwing stuff out! ;)

if they are my own rugs I tend to repair them.

Rugs i take from the skip at the yard i wash, repair and sell on ebay to make myself a few extra pennies :)

Have no idea but in the same situation as you! 3 or 4 for for the bin (as can't be bothered to repare or reproof) but still they are in my tack room!
Will keep an eye on your thread!

I keep them to use for repairing current rugs - vital, with my boisterous rug ripping gelding!

TBH, I would only donate a rug to charity that was still useable - i.e. rugs I no longer need or horse had outgrown. If it isn't waterproof then it probably isn't much use to them - but I suppose it depends on the state of repairs, I would repair a surcingle for example and give it to charity but if it needed so many repairs and it wasn't easily useable then I would bin it :)

I take off buckles etc that could be useful, give some to the rug wash/repair lady to use for patches (often needed by us!) and use some for the dogs to lie on when they get shut in the feedroom when I ride.

I would only give useable rugs to charity, but I guess you could always ask if they would be any good to them...

My late lad was a serial rug trasher, and so I have a number of rugs sitting in the garage with the hope that they'll come in useful at some point, and hopefully not beyond repair!:o

I wash and repair rugs, if i have rugs given to me, depending on their state, might wash reproof repair and resell or give to someone who is struggling, I also look after some RDA rugs I dont charge for repairs just washing and proofing, and they often get rugs given to them in need of repair etc.
Some rugs though are beyond help so i just remove straps etc to reuse which i only charge for sewing on to reg etc so saves some one money.:):)

Well to be honest i would be embarrassed to give these to a charity as they are old and damaged!
Some great ideas here though! :)

I mend them :o

Or use them as patch and strap donors, if they are very bad. Even then Im thinking I could have mended that! :D
