what do you do with your sec a/b's?

Lunge, longrein, taught her to bow, back up on voice command etc take her for walks inhand and she does alot of this ..

Want to get her driving eventually but she's a bit of a monster!

Honestly? It's probably not that much less than your average horse for her as she's complicated (laminitis .. :o) so she's kept in a lot so obviously have extra bedding/feed/hay costs but generally welshies are quite cheap to keep! I just got unlucky enough to have the welshie that thinks she's a thoroughbred :rolleyes: love her to bits though!

Although not so much when he does this with a child on him. :rolleyes:

He doesn't do much these days other than eat and mooch around the field as my boys have now grown out of him. Would love him to have a rider but he needs to be in a routine otherwise he takes the mickey. On the other hand he's 21 now so I don't feel particularly guilty about him not working.
 
My daughter rides ours! She's 5 foot and 6 and a half stone and nearly 17. He's a registered very well bred b, chestnut roan and 13.1hh. She showed him at Royal London last year, won a class and so got into the evening performance. I was so proud of them both! I think he costs as much as a small horse to keep, he's very quirky and hard to keep weight on, esp in winter, not really a tough hardy native at all!

We want to do more serious showing this year and some dressage, he has a terrific jump on him, 1 m but he does have to be in the mood! She absolutely adores him, and so do I.
 
Well he wasn't ever mine but the section A at an old job I used to ride, jump, hack, we even did a dressage test before I left :) He was awesome! Think he was 12h, I'm 5'1 and 8 stone. Could jump huge but only loose schooling, my feet knocked the poles down if they were too high :( And he was so fast, generally just really good fun. I'd love another like him

AMW what breeding is your lad? He's smart..
We show ours, well hopefully when this weather ever dries up! And the 3y/o will be broken this year before going cubbing in the autumn which shall be good fun! Then will come out undersaddle next year :)

Our 11.2hh section A taught my then 6yr old daughter to jump. She also taught her how to sit to a rear & how to cling on to a non asked for gallop!!

What else did I do with her? Chased her round the village countless times when she discovered she could escape & spent far too many hours trying to load the little sod!
 
I am getting a sec A this weekend! I plan to take her walkies, brush her, pet her and treat her like a my little pony! I am excited, I never had a pony when I was little :-) she will be a companion really but I might show her if the opportunity arises, she is only 2 so no need to think about anything else for now :-)
 
SimplyHunting, he is Cadlanvalley Georgie Boy, by Newtonhill Naughty Boy Charlie out of Cadlanvally Georgette. He is 2 this year, had a great yearling season with him winning many championships & supremes. He will be lightly campaigned this year as we are planning covering a couple of mares with him.
 
We've got an A and a B. Knobberpony is 23 and a cross bred B.She hacks,hunts,does Pony Club,Cross Country,Show jumps,games,rounds up the sheep,fancy dress.I have ridden her too,but normally my 9 year old rides her.

Our new boy is a 6 year old Section A,strawberry roan with a flaxen mane and tail.He was broken to drive but no longer does due to being in a bad accident,so was broken to ride last year and has come to us to learn how to be an all round child's pony.He arrived on Saturday and my 7 year old is happily hacking him out on the road.Eventually he'll be doing the same as knobberpony and I hope that he'll be as good as she is.
 
We have 2 driving As, and a four-in-hand of Bs :) Some also ride/local level showing :) One A has just gone out on loan but has driven at national indoor level, the other is driven by a novice at club events. The Bs have represented GBR and were reserve national champions last year :)

These are all beautiful :D Rara, are section A's ok to drive adults then? Where do you start? I'd love to drive, but have never done it and was a bit worried that an A might be too slight to pull an adult :o
 
I love my two. They are hilarious to watch.

I was lucky enough to buy a Welsh A that was bred by a top stud, largely written off because of sweet itch he is an unlikely candidate for the show ring, I bought him as a pet but have since turned in to an ponyzilla maniac owner and determined to get him back in the show ring!
 
Have a look on the BHDTA website for a teacher near you :) Or PM me where you are and I might know one :) Most section As are fine to pull a 4 wheeler and 2 normal adults, or even more, over sensible distances :) Some even get up to single marathon (about 9km timed trot at normal pony speed, followed by 1km walk at normal speed, vet check and 10 min halt then another 9km at any pace including 8 timed obstacles :)
The black is only just over 11hands but he's happy with everything we've asked of him :) The other 'A' pulls a heavier carriage and is 12hh, and also has never not been strong enough!
 
Mostly spend a lot of my time shouting his name from my other better behaved pony's stable to stop the little sod picking up everything in his reach and trying to eat it! My welsh a is 13 this year and hasn't been ridden since he was 9 as I am too big and he has arthritic hocks. He is totally and wholy unsuitable for a child as he is very very sharp, quirky and has an opinion about everything! We do a lot of inhand work, go for walks together and I take him out to big county shows which he loves. He's not the easiest, requires lots of rugging, can be tricky to catch and a handful for people he doesn't know but I think he might be the love of my life :D. He's also totally gorgeous being black with a blaze and 4 white socks and doesn't he know it! They are such little characters, I can't imagine not having one!

Thought he looked like one of cadlans, Naughty Boy Charlie seems to stamp all his stock.
 
We got our 12hh sec B to BYRDS inter-regionals last year, she does a great dressage test, PC games pony, sj & working hunter. The breeder of our new 13hh sec B drives, jumps and rides her 12.2 stallion, he does everything without any complaint even being dressed up for fetes and fund raising events.

They are so versatile and the little welshies have been very influential in other sports ponies stud books

Thank you- also like the stockier B's, I'm sure they'd definately be fine. I can't believe how strong thay are! I would only want to do pleasure driving, not compete or anything, but I literally don't know where to start, with buying the harness and cart or anything!
