As in title! what do you do with your shetlands from shows to how long and what you do when exercising them, so what do you a your fluffy four legged friends get up to!? Tell me here!:D
So today was my first time with the little shetland i said i would exercise and pamper, she was fine to groom and was a very good girl! then it came to lunging and it all went wrong:rolleyes: She popped 2 tiny jumps which she loved, but when it comes to lunging she doesn't have a clue, she most probably hasn't been lunged before or its been a long time since she was, as she has no reaction to the lunge whip at all , she then proceeded to running off off to the nearest fence and rubbing her head to get her head collar off i then tried to put it back on her as she succeeded and she kicked me twice.
Im not giving up on her! she WILL get rid of her big belly and she WILL learn some bloomin' manners!

Ours has been shown inhand and ridden. He currently gets ridden by my featherweight 9yr old and they have great fun. He gets hacked out, does pc and used to do polo as well

My shetlands just hang around looking cute, I did try to break mum shet to drive but her awful behavioural problems ditched that idea. She would capriole beautifully, do handstands or bolt, then the next day she would be fine, I never got as far as actually hitching up. She will hyperventilate when her rug is put on one day and not bother the next, she lunges really well and will pop a jump. As she is a rescue I think something bad has happened to her at some point, I may have a go a showing her, could be interesting. Her baby is a bit brain damaged, probably birth trauma, she was 3 weeks when I got them both so I don't know what actually happened but she's happy and doesn't have to do a job, looking cute is fine! :)

I have a mini shetland and a mini horse. I do bugger all with the shetty as hes just a companion but i show the miniature horse. Work wise he gets walked out in hand and lunged, longreined. With lunging i work upto 20 mins a time, trotting and cantering. That gets him fit!!

We show them inhand, take them for walks (just for fun, to the pub, to the beach), lunge them, long rein them, my daughter rides them, and my next plan is to start working through them breaking them to drive.

My Shetland gets ridden, lunged, jumped and this weekend we started long reining him. He's such a star though not put a hoof wrong! Next step is to get him into a harness and find a cart :-) he isn't getting a chance to be fat this year!

I drive my shetlands and they love it. They also ride around the fields, go for walks, round up sheep, check fencing and do jumps. They are fab.

I get really fed up with people rubbishing them as naughty. Those ponies only have no manners as they are not disiplined or handled properly, they deserve to have happy and fullfilling lives which involved them getting OUT the field and being used, same as any other pony or horse.

Mums mini shettie goes out for little in hand hacks occasionally and my little niece is lead round the school on him when she visits.
He is absolutely useless to lunge but then I've never kept it up trying really.

My Shettie X drives and does indoor trials and Summer exercise classes. i've done a bit of in hand showing, (I hate it!), she lunges and jumps to ring the changes and occasionally I or daughter hack her out. We're both much too big for her but she's willing enough and enjoys being out with the big ponies. She's as good as gold, I completely agree with Headpiece that they usually are naughty 'cos they're bored.

We have 4 black shetlands, they basically live wild. Last year we sat on one of them in the summer just to play around but otherwise they are left to their own devices.
