With rugs of horses passed?

I can't bear to look at mine and have them just hung away at the back out of sight...I was thinking about giving them away to someone who needs them, but don't honestly know if I could let them go either.

Which is stupid as baby coblet is never going to fit them, as he'll be a 6ft maximum when older and don't think I'd want him in them anyway. They're all brand new as brought them new for the move.

I don't know. I very much dislike life right now.

If they are brand new then try to avoid feeling like they have a connection to the horse. If never used take them back to the shop or if slightly used sell them on eBay. Use the money for something to remember horse or just for a rainy day fund.

I think don't make a decision yet. You may eventually decide that giving them away is the best option, but give yourself time to think about it xxx

Turnouts are new, other than about 2 hours of wear. Indoor ones are in good condition but used.

Thanks. Like the idea of putting the money towards something for him.

I kept a lot of Roos rugs and other items after I lost him. Many of his things were partly trashed (what you get with a baby arab me thinks ;) ) and the rest of it was so covered in grey hair it wasn't really worth trying to sell. However, another baby arab found her way to me, so I'm quite glad I kept it all. It all fitted for the first 6 months anyway :O

Save at least one CS. You'll want to give it a good old sniff one day, pick off the hairs and remember his colour and wrap yourself up in it and have a good cry. Sell some, buy baby cob something ridiculously extravagant and keep one for a rainy day xx

Clean them, reproof if necessary for outdoor ones & I store them for a min of a year. Then if circumstances don't change, I go through & see what could be sold.

Have got a bit of a collection of 6'6 & 6'3's but am keeping them till next winter, as NH is currently in 5'9's but being 16.1 & rather poor, they 'might' come in useful if he bulks out...... otherwise if not, the better ones can go :)

I must admit that I still have LF's best going out rug & her everyday outdoor LW & will not be parted from them.

Used mine on new horse even though a teeny bit long except her new heavy weight as she only wore it a couple of times last winter. It was big on her so would swamp new boy - can't bring myself to sell it as she looked so gorge in it.

Thankyou.

I can't honestly see myself getting another horse now, I only sold the pony just prior, in order to afford to be able to keep both of them, so know I won't have a use for them. I cannot look at them. They just bring back his last moment.

I might keep his old team chasing/show rug. He used to go everywhere in that one.

Baby coblet is the only one for me now. I don't know what I'd be doing without him. x

When I lost a share horse we kept one and gave the rest to a horse santuary. We didnt want to just sell them and this way we felt we were helping other horses in need. Center were very very grateful for the donation of the rugs and blankets :)
Sorry for your loss by the way :( xx

Thanks.

I didn't take tail hair from him. I thought of it at the time, but just couldn't bring myself to do it.

I might get a hipflask engraved or something similar.

I donated mine to WHW as they have a farm local to me.
I kept his head collar though, I couldn't bear to part with everything :(

Got rid of the really old (and very hairy!) ones and donated the rest to my Appy. He was my mum's old boy's best friend so it was lovely to think that he had inherited them from him. :)

I gave them all away to other ponies who weren't as fortunate to have such an extensive wardobes as my girly! She doesn't need them now its nice and warm where she is, the sun is always shining.

I gave away some, a couple have gone to deano now that he's here but his stable rug is unwashed in a box in my cupboard waiting for me to be able to face it again.
His saddle is in the cellar -I can't look at it for the same reason you said, brings back his last moments :(

Keep them tucked away for now, you will know when you are ready to part with them. My old dog had a rug, i kept it until one day i decided the local greyhound rescue could have it, blubbed like a baby when i gave it to them, but glad it went to a home that could make good use of it. So when you are ready save your special one, sell the nearly new ones and donate the others xx

After a lot of thought I gave mine to Bransby Home of Rest for Horses.
I am so glad that I did as I feel his rugs are helping a horse less fortunate.
They were all in mint condition.

Good Luck, it's a difficult time for you.

I've given the rugs away, I had some old stable rugs which belonged to a horse that I owned for 27 years, I don't need them but didn't want to sell them to a stranger.
I gave them to an old friend who I knew would take good care of them, I know it's silly but I wanted her things to be looked after but I also wanted them to be used as I hated seeing her things just hanging around.

Sold them all as silver's were only 6ft and buds is 7ft.
My y/o bought them all for her horse and it is gut wrenching sometimes, especially his bright red rain sheet as out of the corner of my eye I think its him :( kept his nice travel rug but that's all. Hardest of all was his bridle, lovely stubben so was a shame to leave it hanging about so sold it and bought buds his New party one. Only managedthat this month, 8 months after his death and 2 years since I retired him!

So so sorry for what your going through. I adored your posts on him, Give baby coblet a big squeeze. I agree with other posters when they say give it time, don't rush it. Xx

I sold a couple of rugs, the remainder I gave away to a local horse and pony charity.

I found it really hard to part with my old boy's saddle - I'd saved and saved for this saddle and looked after it so carefully but no way would it fit my new horse. I sold it to a local saddler and bought myself a bracelet with the proceeds.

Cleaned them, they are in a shires rug bag.

About three we really can't part with but the rest doesn't really have that much emotion to them so are willing to sell them....

I have been on the receiving end of this. I was given several rugs from a lady who had lost her horse. Myself and my horses are incredibly grateful for her generosity, and when the time comes I will pass mine on the same way so someone else can have the benefit.

Afraid I'm too practical and it all gets used on other horses here, I can't afford to be too sentimental over expensive things like rugs and tack and it doesn't detract from my nice memories of the horse anyway.

Sold some, kept the ones that fit my other horse. It probably sounds silly, but it makes me smile still finding a little bit of ginger hair around the place even years after he's gone. Makes me feel like he's still watching over us and not forgotten.
