As in the title really. Just wondered what people like to feed their good doers who are in work (ridden 5-6 days a week weather permitting) alongside soaked hay (8-9 hours soaking).

My good doer has put weight on over summer so is on soaked hay now as he is in overnight for winter now. Out in the day with limited grazing. On baileys low cal and hifi lite or good doer. Do people like to top up with speedibeet or something similar?

Thanks

If your horse is still overweight then I wouldn't be adding any extra to your balancer apart from a handful of low calorie chaff.

I feed exactly the same as you are currently.

Soaked Hay
Cup of Bailey's Lo-Cal mixed with a small amount of Hi-fl Lite

Restricted Grazing during day and in at night.:)

Great thanks everyone. Was a bit worried about lacking in nutrients with the soaked hay eps if we can carrying on riding all winter! Thanks again!

I would not add anything if looking for weight loss. My lad is out in day on restricted grazing and in at night on measured hay. He has a couple of handfuls of hi fi lite and an all round vit min supplement.

The balancer should supply the vit/mins and protein which will be depleted in the soaked hay. If further into the winter you find that he is starting to become a bit too lean then you can look at ways of adding extra calories to his diet by either changing to a different balancer or adding something like Speedibeet to his existing Lo Cal.
