What do you feed your competition horse?

I have a 16hh 7yr old WB, He is out in the day and stabled at night with ad lib haylege, hard feed he gets 2x a day, A&P ride &relax, Spillers Horse & pony cubes, Hi Fi Molasses free chaff, he also gets a joint sup, linseed and calmer.

My 17hh TB 16yo who is a very poor doer is currently on 1 1/2 stubbs scoop of pure feeds conditioning split over two feeds a day and is piling the pounds on.
He's only been on it a month and he's a lot quieter than he was on his usual feed of Barley and Sugar beet :)
Ad lib haylage over night in stable and out during the day when the weather is nice!

He's competing BS and BD through the winter 2/3 times a month, works 7 days a week (hacks on a sunday if not competing) schooling for around 45mins - 1hr. He will event from March on the same feed me thinks :)

Horse eventing last season at BE100/90 came here in Feb a bit under weight, adlib haylage at night, turned out all day by mid season I was being careful he did not get too fat. Fed on 1 scoop D&H Pasture mix, HiFi, small amount of speedibeet, Pink Powder and electrolytes twice a day. Currently just coming back after 5 weeks off, rather too well, so on adlib haylage and a few handfulls of feed just for his vits.
He is 16 hands lightweight tb x

16.1 ISH again ad lib haylage, A&P Fast Fibre, HiFi

I have recently put all mine on brewers yeast instead of PP
If I need more energy I add oil to the feeds.

Hellooo,

My big man is a 9yo WBxTB, 16.2hh, competing Intermediate and 2*. He has ad lib haylage and three feeds a day when competing with Saracen Speed mix, regular Mollichaff and barley rings. He also gets electrolytes, MSM and glucosamine.

Through the winter (he drag hunts, dressages and showjumps) he is still on three feeds a day, but we replace the Speed mix with a Saracen cool mix and make them all smaller or he gets a little too full of himself! We keep the barley rings in there though as he tends to drop of quite quickly. He will also have a warm bran mash with all the above ingredients after hunting :)

I've currently got mine on pony nuts, sugar beet, alpha a oil and baileys No1 the cereal and its not working so this is interesting.. I think the cereal needs to go but I can have him lose condition..? Any ideas on what I can substitute this with?

Mally is a 16.2/3hh ISH currently hunting once a month, doing the odd bit of show jumping and working 6 days a week.

She is feed on 1.5 stubbs scoop of Molasses free Alfa A, 2 mugs of Baileys Performance Balancer and a stubbs scoop of Speedibeet split between two feeds. She also gets a scoop of Baileys Top Line cubes in a feed ball over night, which is swapped for Cool Cubes if she gets a bit porky.

IMO she is spot on at the moment, both in terms of weight and energy.

The horse we event whilst eventing was on alfa-a, 1 scoop pasture mix and 1 scoop comp mix with Equiform Xtrolyte Blue before and after an event.

The others tend to go between chaff and sugar beet, pasture mix, comp mix and Saracen Equi-Jewel depending on what I feel they need and how much they are doing.

Whenever they are having a few days off or a holiday they just have chaff or in winter chaff and sugarbeet.

They get turned out in the day for about 5 hours sometimes less sometime more just depend and they have good quality haylage whenever they are in .

I really like the Top Spec Competition Balancer. I just mix 2 cups in with some Hi Fi and a bit of oil/garlic 2 of those a day with plenty of haylage.

I never feel like we are lacking in energy but find it doesnt fizz her up if she has a few days off like alot of the other feed can

17 hand Belgium warmblood working 6 days a week , competing at newcomers he's on Allen and page power abd performance .. Hes doing very well in it , gives him the *umph* he needs without bucking me off! :)

Another vote for A&P Power and Performance. I have noticed a marked improvement in both my horses since switching! Big one gets half a scoop twice daily with some hi-fi and some cubes and the "good do-er" has about 1/3 scoop twice daily. Bear in mind it is 1 part p&p to 2 parts water so dont over do it as it turns out to be quite a large amount once soaked!

My 15.1hh 8yrs Connemara (when he's in work - he's out of work ill at the moment) is worked 6-7 days per week. Schooling is 45mins-1hr session. Hacking is 1hr with lots of hill work and interval training. Competes BD 2/3 times per month. In summer will also start BS.

He is fed on 1 stubbs scoop Mollichaff Cherry Show Shine, 1/2 stubbs scoop Badminton Fibre Plus Nuggets, 1 stubbs scoop Speedi Beet twice per day with Electrolytes and Milk thistle supplement. He has liver disease so high protein balancers and conditioning mixes are a huge no no for him his diet must be fibre.
He is stabled at night and has 12lbs hay dampened and in a haylage net at night and is turned out from 7am-4pm daily. He is also given a further 3/4 stubbs scoop of Fibre Plus Nuggets in a Decahedron to occupy him (depression is a big symptom of liver disease) and has a Mineral lick in his stable. On this diet he's put on 19kg in a month - he had lost a lot of weight from the liver diesease - and looks better than ever and has loads of energy! (my sharer takes him for gentle hacks while he's off work to keep his brain occupied!)

Once he's better I will speak to the vet about an all round supplement to support him while he's competing but he is going so well on this diet.

In the past I have used A&P Calm & Condition, Alfa A Oil, D&H Ultimate Balancer and Conditioning cubes to no avail with him - didn't put on weight at all!

William is 16hh and 12 years old. Overgrown connie x TB. Out during the day, in at night. Comps - not many at the moment, but mainly BD. Feed doesnt change much all year round, but levels of grass / hay do. Good doer, fed basic rations of hi fi and Equilibra 500 with supps. As much hay as he can eat, which is a lot! :)

15.2hh 5yo laid back, good doer, worked 5-6 days a week plus daily walker session.
Ad hoc draghunting (average once a month), and a training/dressage/sj out most weekends.

3/4 stubbs scoop of ERS pellets twice a day, haylage (not quite ad lib)

7/8tb headcase 8yo. Out during the day, in at night, good quality haylege and two feeds of Veteran Vitality, Speedibeet (half a Stubbs soaked scoop of each per feed) and a Stubbs scoop of Readigrass in each feed.
I have 4 gees, two are over 20 so everything gets VV including the foal.

Hey Lexi.. is this half a scoop dry.. sounds like it is?

Jae is a 16.1hh, 6yr old TB.
In the summer he was being ridden twice a day, doing baby BE ODE's, SJ, DR and showing. He was out 24/7 on amazing grass and fed a double handful HiFi, a handful fibre nuts, pink powder and apple cider vinegar.

Now he is in at night in I would say light-medium work, working once a day 5/6 days per week mix of hacking, schooling, jumping ect and he's doing BD twice a month (as of Jan, he's not doing anything this month because of a busy Christmas).
He's being fed 1 heaped Stubbs scoop of HiFi, 1/2 scoop fibre nuts, pink powder and a splash of oil. I have brought some kwick beet in case he drops off but he doesn't need it yet as he looks a picture! He also gets a net of soaked hay at night, there's still a bit of grass in his field so hes not hungry enough to eat all his hay at night.

Mine doesn't need competition feed or fattening feed, he always looks well and has plenty of energy!

I had no luck with A&P Calm and Condition. I found it maintained condition ok in the summer and then didn't work in the winter.

Hey Lexi.. is this half a scoop dry.. sounds like it is?

Yep :) 1/2 scoop dry, then soaked in 1 scoop water like you would sugar beet. It becomes a sloppy mess but they love it... and my dogs do too which is a little strange and they start bouncing off the walls when they have been at it :o

Definitely worth a try as I switched after Murphy went a bit dull on me mid season and I am chuffed with it. Both chaps are on top form without being silly :D

Hello!
My good doer Warmblood is back in work 5 days a week now and out competing every other weekend BS or BD and he is just on chaff and nuts.. He will stay on the same when eventing as competition mix just blows his brain! He gets cortaflex and also Naf in the pink senior... I also recommend the Naf respirator boost when out eventing fed a couple of days before competition!

Thats a seriously good doer! 'll have a look at NAF respirator - interesting! Thanks!

I just putting their daily totals, they have it split into smaller feeds!!
I am blessed with 2 VERY good doers!

17.1 5yo WB Dressage (Elem/Med)
3 scoops Prep 14
2 scoops Racehorse cubes
Super Flex and Electrolytes

16.3 12yo WB Dressage (Med/AMed)
1 scoop of nice and easy cubes

16.3 10yo WB Show Jumper (1.20)
1 scoop chaff
1/2 scoop nice and easy cubes
She is still the size of a house and I have given up with calmers none of them work on her!

16h 10yo WB Show Jumper (1.10/1.15)
1 scoop chaff
2 scoops Prep 14
1 scoop nice and easy cubes
Pink Powder

Well mine probably doesnt count, but never mind anyway!

Needed to fatten up, was on Baileys No 4 and Speedibeet/fibrebeet. Now most of weight is put on, has been dropped downt to D&H pasture cubes/mix and normal sugarbeet, and as of end of Jan will just be on D&H hi-fibre cubes (they are cheaper!) and sugarbeet.

Dont know how much she is fed, as yard do it.

Mine is working 5 times week, mainly schooling, but jumping upto 1.10m BSJA, a couple fo times a month, or having lessons etc. She has ad lib hay, 3/4 stubs scoop of Hickstead Paddock Mix, 1 scoop of Horsehage Molichaff hi fibre (or Dengie Hi Fi molasses free) 2 times daily, plus Gastric settler, and linseed oil in her evening feed. She gets Electrolytes added as and when needed.

In the summer, she is a fatty! She comes in in the day to keep weight off, and gets 2 slices of hay, 1 scoop of chaff in the morning, and 2 scoops of Hickstead Paddock mix split over morning and evening, and her gastric settler in the morning. However, I am going to try her on a balancer next summer, and see how we get on... she does need a bit of slow release energy from her feed though, as she uses so much energy being exhuberant, she gets tired quickly ;)

16.1hh 9year old selle francais that not a good doer i scoop of hifi no mollase and 1 mug of top spec balancer x2 (was suggested blue chip but no where near me stores it) with only 20lb of hay a day (yard limit) and out for 10 hours
Normaly would be working minumin 5days a week and competing in just BS atm
