What do you feed your competition horse?

I had no luck with A&P Calm and Condition. I found it maintained condition ok in the summer and then didn't work in the winter.

Even in summer I was feeding silly quantites of it to a NATIVE pony lol! He was on a soaked scoop twice a day with a scoop of chaff each time too and 12lbs hay at night! 1 bag lasted me 7 days... !!

To be honest, even on the good doer Section D x TB I used to have dropped significantly from when he was on Top Spec Leisure time once he was on C&C! The only horse it was good on was my 4yo WB gelding who was again a good doer and didn't have a huge ammount of it.

When I ran a busy livery yard, the people who used C&C used HUGE quantities of it (and I mean even dry quantities not soaked) and their horses still looked poor.

16h 7yr KWPN (Med/AdvMed)
He is worked 5-6 days a week competed about twice a month and is a good doer. Out most days in at night with adlib haylage. He is fed 1/4 A+P Power and performance, 1/2 alfa twice daily. He is a sensitive horse to ride but he goes really well on the P+P, I think it gives him a good energy without going over board.

Wibs is on 1/2 a scoop of A&P Calm and Condition and 1/2 a scoop of chaff (atm it's Happy Hoof because it was on offer but sometimes it's CWG's own stuff, sometimes Dengie. I only feed it to slow him down) split across the two feeds. Plus a sack of hay morning and night. He lives out and is now fat!

ETA: Granted he's only been in very light work (aka Mum's happy hack) lately but he had plenty of energy today when I schooled him :p

15.3hh ISH, 2x stubbs scoop Hifi, sugarbeet, Alafa nuts, soya oil and 3 nets hayledge. Out over night, ridden 5 times a week and competed twice a month.

All 25 horses on the yard are feed the same in different quantities.

Gosh mine must be VERY good doers!
J 14.2 Arab out from 6.30am til 6pm, still have some grass left in his field, one large trug of haylage a night, he has one scoop pure working in evenings and 2/3 scooping am, mug balancer and joint supp. He's worked 5/6 days a week mix of hacking jumping schooling. Competes maybe once or twice a month across all disciplines. Previously had 1/2 scoop staypower and 2/3 scoop Alfa a morning and evening. Looks good on this.

Roo 16.2 kwpn x ish, competing BS and unaffil dressage, ridden 5 days a week again mix school and hacking. Previously on 1/2 scoop ride and relax, 2/3 Alfa, now has 1 scoop pure easy in evening 2/3 scoop in morning and again balancer and joint supplement. One huge haynet a night and 12 hours in field that is getting a bit bare now do will start haying field after Christmas. If anything he's a little 'well covered'!!

Mini TX's mare is a good doer. She is a KWPN/TB and is 9 years old and 15.1hh. During the eventing season she is fed two scoops of what is called Wyatts Wonder Mix, which we get from our local feed merchant. It is the cheapest of the cheap, being £6.50 a sack. Apart from adlib haylage and turnout thats all she gets in the summer. In the winter its a little less and she also gets some speedibeet if we feel she needs it. We need no supplements, she does not need a calmer or anything. She is really easy to feed. Duing the summer it costs me £13.00 a month to feed both my horses.

Thats amazing! Winnie seems to be costing me a bomb at the moment hence this research!

My event horse (who is currently hunting over the winter & schooling 4-5 times a week) is on
per day....
3 scoops baileys Endurance
2 scoops Alfa A Oil
200ml Muscle Pro (rice bran oil supplement)
plus electrolytes, joint supplement & nucleotides
plus ad lib hay & haylage (half & half)

he existed for years on just alfa a & oil, & looked/felt great, but i think as he's got older he's found it harder to keep the weight on, combined with a steady increase in the intensity of his work, i swapped him to this & it's suiting him at the moment,

everything else gets ad lib hay & chaff & the babies all get stud cubes too (as do any naughty ponies that should know better!)

16.3 ish warmblood not the greatest of doers. Worked 5 days a week fast hacking at weekend, schooling and lunging during the week. No competing at the mo but would be doing bs a couple of times a month as well as jumping lessons. Currently fed (stubbs scoops)
1 1/2 scoop of alfa a oil
2 scoops of high fibre nuts
1 1.2 scoops of speedi beet
A bit of brewers yeast and linseed oil as well.
Split between 2 feeds a day, he also get a bucket of readi grass at lunch when he comes in and another at night. He is not quite on ad lib hay but does get alot so doesnt go without.
I really stuggled last year and i was pouring conditioning cubes in him and it didnt really make much odds, this year he is looking fab and only dropped off abit when he didnt like that hay i got down for him that week
