Just wondering what everyone feeds their competition horses and why?

Mine look and feel in good nick (maybe a little *too* much sparkle at times!) and are on Speedibeet, oil and Topspec feed balancer. Am a little concerned though that their work load is on the up and might think about changing their feeds so curious to know what everyone else is feeding at the moment.

We have 2.5 acres of poor-ish grass. Adrian is out 24/7 & gets ad lib hay, 1 scoop of comp mix, 1/2 scoop SB & 1 scoop Alfa A twice a day. He is ridden every day & competes most w'ends.

I'm going to get some more propell plus when I can be bothered to drive to the Barn Shop.

1 scoop (stubbs) hifi lite, 1 scoop pasture mix - 3 times a day. Although that has been cut to twice as he isn't doing anything at the moment. Hopefully that will all change soon!

He's only a dressage diva though!

One of them is on Baileys no.9 'All round Competition Mix' which is oat-based and has high oil content.
Last time I tried the other one on that she got very stroppy and rude so I presumed it was the oats and have been trying other feeds to give her the energy without the oats.
Currently she's on D&H Staypower Muesli and so far so good, it seems to get the right balance for her.
They both have Top Spec balancer as well (but half rations), as I only feed small amounts of the mixes and also Dengie Hi-Fi.

I have just changed my two because I was feeding soooooo much mix to Grace it was just too big a feed

Both are on adlib haylage pretty much...

Grace is on (twice a day):
1 stubbs scoop Healthy Hoof
1 cup TopSpec Comprehensive Balancer
1/2 stubbs scoop TopSpec Super Conditioning Flakes
1/2 stubbs scoop TopSpec Cool and Condition Cubes

Han is on (twice a day):
1 stubbs sccop Healthy Hoof
1 cup TopSpec Comprehensive Balancer
1/2 stubbs scoop TopSpec Cool and Condition Cubes

Ideally I would have them both on Alfa A rather than the Healthy Hoof which does not have much in it, but Grace literally starves herself if I add Alfa A (she won't even touch her haylage) so we stick to what she will eat

My 15.2 TB is fed one large scoop of falcons oat and barley free in the morn and one scoop in the eve plus stroppy mare herbs and equine america magnitude. Shes on failry poor grazing at the mo so has ad lib haylage.

She is ridden 6 days a week including several 2 hour hacks, several 1hr schooling sessions and one jump session. She goes out to parties once every 2 weeks.

I find this feed which is similar to A+P sustain, and the staypower muslie is great because it gives her lots of slow release energy and calories to burn off but doesnt send her crazy. She has the magnesium because the grazing is poor atm and the herbs because she can be a stroppy old mare at times!

I am trying to feed mine 1 scoop of calm and condition, 1 scoop of Alfa Oil and Propell Plus but he wont eat anything at the moment other than grass

So is now out for about 20hrs a day.

Anyone got any ideas for an "all inclusive" feed which is highly palatable for a fussy git?!!

Just changed my boy's feed so interesting post.
He's on a scoop of chaff, a scoop of baileys top line conditioning cubes, and a scoop and a half of allen and paige calm and condition morning and night. He's not in full work though, so when he is back in work, that will be replaced with dodson and horrell competition mix
smile.gif

Have found the allen and paige c + c to be a bit heating, wondered if anyone else had had similar experiences?

Yep... the TopSpec Super Conditioning Flakes!

They are designed for fussy feeders, and many race horse trainer use them for this reason too

I am completely converted with Grace. She has never looked so good and she feels great energy wise, compared to when she was on over three stubbs scoops of the D&H Stay power muesli!

2 scoops of local mix, half scoop of sugar beet, 2 cups outshine in the morning.

At night he gets the same, but 1 measure of keep me sound, 1 tablesp of salt and 1 teasp of baking soda
laugh.gif

He also gets 3 large haynets of haylege during the day
smile.gif

He was looking a little run up last week, so has just been put onto outshine

- Badminton Show and Conditioning Mix (only for TB) 2 small scoops
- Speedibeet 1 small scoop
- Chaff 1 small scoop
- Work Rest and Play Mix (cheap unbranded leisure mix) 2/3 small scoops
- Badminton Park Herbal Mix 1/2 small scoops

Larger quantities are for the pure TB and smaller for my little part TB.

Ridden at least 10 times a week with competitions once or twice a week as well as XC training!

well my 15.3 irish type boy is ridden 6 times a wk (out competing or doing something most w.ends)and is out 24/7 tho no grass as yet.Hes fed just one small feed a day(baileys low cal and happy hoof chaff)and given hay twice daily.Looks and feels great on the basics,Im done with feeding various feeds/supps. Went to a talk on horse feed and a horses tum can only take small feeds(tho hey ovb eat as much as we stuff into them,as a general guide,a rugby ball size is the max size of feed you should be giving),most peps may as well burn their money as if a horse is fed too much,it just passes thro the gut soooo quick, you just get MORE pooh picking chores!! rather than dong the horse any good.Lots of forage with a quality feed or balancer(only iff horse needs a hard feed) is what most horses needs.Im prob just stating the obv, sorry,i have been known to gabble on a bit!! hehehehe

I'm a bit dull I'm afraid.
17hh MW doing Nov eventing, ad lib haylage, turnout every second day atm, will be every day fairly soon.

Feed twice daily comprising:
Scoop Alfa-A Oil
Scoop Power and Performance
Scoop soaked sugar beet
Electrolytes as and when.

Mine are fed twice daily and now turned out in day, they are always fed on Spillers Slow Release cubes (Less than the recommended amount), Can't give them anthing starchy or sugary!

And fed with Hifi Lite as is a real good doer, the other Alfa A lite. (they both have Alfa A Lite in winter when stabled)

With Equivite to ensure they get their vit/mins, Garlic and a small amount of extra oil (Linseed) to keep their coats nice and shiny and Newmarket joint supp.

They are looking and feeling very well!

I feed topspec balancer, alfa a oil, unmollassed beet, grass pellets and add a few oats as and when i need to. He is feeling and looking fab on it, and has loads of energy without being silly.

large handful of alfa A oil
scoop conditioning cubes (baileys)
half scoop comp mix
scoop speedi-beet

electrolytes as and when
healthy hooves supplement
garlic

Hattie turns herself inside out on just a sniff of barley
smirk.gif
and naked oats go straight through her!

She's on 1scp of Allen&Page Power and Performance a day, 3/4Scp of Dengie Hifi twice a day and some carrots!
smile.gif
Porky madam doesnt need any more! and if she does need more sparkle we'll just up the Power and Performance
smile.gif

HiFi Original (1 heaped scoop, can't remember what it is in weight)
675g Bailey's LoCal Balancer
Same amount of rolled oats
1 scoop speedibeet

This is split between two meals, and he's looking very good on it. In full work, competing elementary dressage working advanced medium (just

)

I feed the same as you kit279. He's 7/8tb rising 6 and this will be his first full year of competition, but he is very buzzy and an exceptional good doer for his breeding.

I feed 1 and a half scoops of instant energy mix, 1 scoop of happy hoof with biotin, general vitamin and mineral supplement and salt at night and then 1 scoop of instant energy and 1 happy hoof in the morning. He is doing novice eventing near enough every other week and ridden everyday.

I have a good doer Dressage horse who's not fed much atm.
He gets -
1 handful of Hifi Lite 2x a day
675g per day of Baileys Lo cal, split into 2 feeds morning & night.
He's out at grass for anything up to 12hrs a day atm sometimes longer.
He gets a small net of haylage of a night.

He's in full work & competing, he's Working Medium atm & competing Novice / Elem & is still portly looking. Will be having him in the starvy Paddock soon.

ches is on 1 large round bowl scoop of spillers h&p cubes 1 large round bowl scoop of alfa a (alfa a oil or hifi depends what dad comes back with but he does equally well on them all prefer alfa a orig though) which is supplemented with dengie performance vitamins and minerals, NAF superflex and galric granuals

he goes out from 7.30/8am til about 2.30/3pm depending whether the weather is hiddeous

he has as muchgood quality hay as he can eat and the grass isnt particularly lush at the min either

Len has just come off the winter haylege and is like a giant grey sausage I haven't adjusted his hard feed, all hes been on through winter is

1/4 stubbs scoop local mix
1 scoop Dengi Hi fi

Twice a day,

He's ridden everyday and does fittening work twice a week we only compete at dressage though. Hes a pretty good doer and has been in allot since Christmas eating hay in the day and haylege a night. I will knock his breakfast off when hes out all day which will hopefully be at the end of the month.
