Mine is currently on Royal Canin Sensetivity Control, but it's proving really expensicve, are there any cheaper alternatives? I have to be careful with what I feed, for instance Iams gives him a bad reaction, but somebody has recommened Arkwright's as a fair quality, but not massively expensive, feed. I was thinking of mixing some of his current feed with the Arkwright's, so I'd use less of the pricey stuff :o

Thanks!

It varies, but at the moment it's chicken carcass, raw green tripe and Fishmongers from Pets at Home for training/travelling, which is on offer and quite decent, it has very high fish content, the staff will tell you it's one of the better dried foods on the market, especially for the price.

Brilliant, I notice it's sensetivity control too. The one I use is £13 for 1kg, from the vets :(

Awkwrights would not be suitable. A very cheap & nasty food.

Which Canin sensitivity control version is he on? What is the reason for this food -as in what are you trying to avoid?

Betsy has raw 3 days a week and Nature Diet the rest of the time.

She was on Applaws but PAH stopped stocking it so we upped her raw.

Today we bought a small bag of the Fishmongers finest dry from PAH - She was on one of the fishmongers foods last year and she loved it but she was fairly itchy. Fingers crossed this type is less itchy. If not I will order a big bag of Applaws.

fish4dogs salmon and although they changed the recipe she does very well on it so will keep her on it... she can be quite fussy and loves this food.

Just changed his foot as he was getting itchy and had bald spots. He's on Symply salmon one and in 2 weeks have seen a big improvement. No itching and the hair is starting to grow back.

Was fish4dogs until they changed the recipe and I couldn't get the good Superior version for a good price. So now on Fishmongers. His weight is just as good and if anything he likes it more!

Used to feed Orijen but swapped to raw 2 years ago, wouldn't change back and it costs a lot less. I buy 3 months worth at a time mostly from Durham Animal feeds. Bit restricted as one dog has allergies to red meat but we do ok on poultry, fish, pheasant, rabbit etc

Thanks everyone- this is my first dog, so I was a bit unsure about food. I found that Iams made him have a really upset tummy, so the vet suggested the Canine one, which he is fine on, but it's really expensive.

Iams is not a good brand but there are lots of different Cani varieties. Look at Skinners Field & Trial Duck & rice. A decent food that suits a lot of dogs at a reasonable price. If you call Skinners they may send you csamples.

If you could put a list of ingredients of the current food we can suggest matches but the one you mentioned is very poor.

My ten week old is on iams and natures diet. Im going to change the iams to wainwrights though as I've since been told its not great.

My 8 month old King Charles Cavalier has been on Taste of the Wild Salmon since she came home. I've been wanting to make the change to raw but have been afraid of not doing it right, so I've been postponing it...!

She does look great on TOT and it is a very cheap feed for its quality. Her hair looks absolutely great, as does her weight.

Mine is on Skinners puppy until the bag runs out then its raw all the way.. She gets some raw meals during the week at the moment (not with the dry!) This week she's had Fish, chicken and tripe.

mine are b0oth on james wellbeloved turkey and rice kibble and do very well on it . one of mine has colitis so needs hypoallegenic food. its £39.99 for 15kg sack

Raw meat and bones, I mainly feed raw (chicken carcasses, tripe as mentioned).
There's a sticky on the subject at the top of the board. Very good for dogs with sensitivities/allergies/food absorbing problems.

I started to feed them raw

I read this from somewhere.
The best food (in order) to feed dog
1: Raw meat+organ+bone
2: Cooked meat+ organ
3: Human grade canned food
4: Pet canned food
5: Pet dry food
