What do you feed your hot horses?

mine is a 16hh ISH (7/8rh TB) she is a hot horse.
She is on badminton Easy rider chaff - no mollasses, no alfalfa, no nothing
Coolstance Copra meal
Kwikbeet
linseed meal
Soya meal

All in all its fibre and oil (slow release energy)

no cereals, no sugar, no starch, no alfalfa!

She is living out as suits her mind better and she is looking good -she is worked hard daily and usually competing once a week when not in artic conditions

i compete SJ.

Most of my rides are quiet, however i have one that is a hot head. I manege her by correct work, and i just feed her basic feed. She doesnot have molasses, or conditioning/competition mix. She's just on a scoop of Hi-Fi and a half scoop of a general mix, 3 times a day. The general mix wont give her all that much energy yet it provides her withthe supplements and minerals she needs, the HI-FI bulks it out and helps with the weight, now it's winter she gets some alfa-beet in her breakfast and dinner to help keep weight on and it doesn't fizz her up.

One of mine is very very hot -esp if he is on a feed that doesn't suit him, and the other can be sharp and spooky at times too- they both have the following which is high oil, fibre and low starch has always really suited them and keeps them relaxed yet focussed:

Alfa Oil
Spillers Slow Release Cubes (one has Spillers Conditioning Cubes mixed in too in the winter)
Pink powder
One has Magnitude too as he can be a stressy quirky but funny old man at times!

Mine at the moment, a mare who is hot, is fed:

Spillers Lite Balancer
Hi Fi
Sugar beet

I try to keep it a simple as possible.

hello,

I have a hot warmblood I event and he has been going fantastically on Allen and Page Calm and Condition. He's 17hh and in medium work (before the snow) and has just under a scoop of C&C and 3/4 Alpha A.

Interesting!
I feed mine a handful of general mix, and a scoop of chaff twice a day, other wise she is a nightmare! Really just to get her supplements in, was thinking about putting her on slow release cubes

My ISH gets half a scoop of hifi lite, and a quarter of a scoop of Dod and Horrell pasture mix in winter when not working much am and pm, and 3/4 scoop of hifi and 1 scoop pasture mix when evening at lower affiliated levels. She has had alpha A oil without problems. If I give her sugarbeet, or rich haylage, she gets hat rashes! My other ISH get about the same, but isn't overly hot, in temperature or temprament - both are naturally rotund, and don't need weight putting on ever!

I have a coloured cob, who has 'attitude', hates to stand still and is extremely forward going. Not spooky, but can be argumentative. Does this class as 'hot'? Not sure, but she's 'exciteable' as soon as she sets hoof on grass.....

She gets
ad-lib hay
a scoop of Hi-Fi
Top-Spec. (plus Naf-Respirator atm)

Not competing atm, because of lack of work :S

I have a hot blooded horse (PRE). All he gets is a scoop of good doer and hay. I did also give him magnesium but I've stopped this for the last few months and he's been fine. He goes on forever and so doesn't need anything else no matter what we do

A fibre/oil based diet works for most, some can have alfafa without any adverse effect. Steer clear of anything with a high starch and sugar content.

Mine have been fed the following with great success:
Allen & Page Fast Fibre
Dengie Hi-fi/hi-fi Lite
Baileys Outshine
Speedibeet
Fibrebeet
Dengie Alfa-A
Allen & Page Slim and Healthy
Spillers High Fibre cubes
Badminton Fibre Nuggets
Spillers Happy Hoof
Coolstance Copra.

Currently fat cob, and small useless ginger pony are fed Fast Fibre and Happy Hoof.

The horses an ISH, TB x Welsh D, TB x Holstein are fed Alf-A, Speedibeet, High fibre Cubes and one of them has Outshine.

I had mine on A & P calm and condition and she was a bit on the wild side, didnt do anything naughtly but full to the brim of beans!!! I swapped her onto normal pasture nuts and she is so much better on it. She also gets a handfull of alpha a, unmollased sugar beet and lots of oil.
Shes only 5 so just baby competing, but she works hard and will hopefully BE next year.
